Rough weekend! Any advice?
Well it started out, not getting into the woods friday evening bc I had an emergency meeting at work. Saturday morning seen several fawns and one big doe. And then the ????? Saturday night I chose to hunt a ground blind where I seen numerous buck tracks. My brother hunted in one of my other stands. Just before dark he seen 3 mature does, walk on an ALL Dry Dirt path about 30 yards from him. He took the shot and the doe took off. Hes fairly new to hunting(4yr) so he was not sure if the arrow hit solid. We looked all over for blood or for the arrow in order to know if he missed or connected. Nothing. It would be next to impossible to find any blood in that powder dried dirt path, but I am worried he burried the arrow in her and she didnt bleed right away. We decided to leave her till the Am. Walking out we got in my truck and drove past another spot where I hunt(A local tree farm) and there stood a Huge wide buck. I havent seen him this year yet but saw him last year only a few times at night. This year hes even bigger! And he had to have walked right near my stand. But he must be strictly nocturnal. Bc I have never seen him during the day. The next day(Sunday) we went back with my dog trying to find the doe. Nothing no arrow no blood nothing. I am concluding he missed her and the arrow skipped or burried itself. But to the real important ? How do I get this buck to come out just a 30-40 minutes earlier?! The area he is in is very thick, but comes out through the tree farm at night. I hunted many years and this buck inparticular just doesnt seem to want any parts of calls scents rattling. nothing. Only wants to come out at night. I think I know where he beds but theres not trees big enough to get a stand in, and sitting in there will surely disturb him. Any suggestions guys? Im frustrated, confused, and lost for ideas. Next to driving him out with 10 guys which is gay if you ask me.
