First Turkey with A Bow!! (PIC)
Well guys. I finally did it. I never thought I would but my luck prevailed yesterday. I drove to my field and before I got there saw around 40 turkeys and tried to put the sneak on 'em but I only had a 50 yard shot and wasnt comfortable with it so I passed. I went back grabbed my climber and took off across the field. I found a tree on the edge with good cover and got settled in. Across the field 60 yards out, I could hear alot of crunching going on and finally caught some movement it was about 20 turkeys all hens and jakes, no gobblers. They made a bee line for my stand and closed to 33 yardsthen dog-legged to my left, circled around behind my stand and began chasing each other around in circles. (this is begining to sound like the Bama/Ole Miss game on saturday). Anyway I couldn't stand up but when the closest hen walked behind a tree I drew. She stepped out at 19 yds and that was all she wrote. 13 yards later I had my first turkey with my bow. Absolutely amazing. I am still excited about it. This past turkey season was my first go at bowhunting turkeys and it is definately a challenge on the ground. My closest encounter was a miss @ 27 yards on three toms. My shot missed high right over the lead toms back. I was "actually" deer hunting but the opportunity presented itself and I took it. However when I shotthe bird it was early so I just hunted the rest of the afternoon until dark.
