RE: the post weve all been waiting for

good luck Mattu and Lurker..it really does feel great!

thanx Rob..i really have been on the highest of highs since 930am yesterday when i watched him flop over dead. i get to relive the story most of the week too telling various friends...i cannot wait to get that head and cape home and throw it on dads lap:D i can tell just by his voice hes super proud. and he should be. he might not bowhunt anymore...but without him i wouldnt be who i am or doin what i do. when i killed my first turkey i was hunting alone..first time ever. brought a long beard home. he was proud as heck. told me he was happy to see i paid attention all them years prior in the woods.

this is one of them feelings that will ALWAYS be with me. ive never seen anything as beautiful as the flight of that arrow.

what happened to that "October Lull" anyways :D ;) 3 bucks and 2 unidentified deer in 5 hrs hunting aint half bad...exspecially for the october lull;)

RE: the post weve all been waiting for

Rob, i definently appreciate it. its so much more than a "kill" i will never forget it and will always beable to see that arrow flying home...

Matt..thats too funny..i actually didnt even use the tracer nock..im having terrible tune problems this year. its not arrows its always high or low..i started from scratch 4 or 5 times trying to BH tune and fine tune it..had my muzzys and snypers flying great with the tracers..but i came home from school and shot after not shooting for a week and could hardly muscle my bow back...shot 70+ all summer. shot the best i ever have, but i knew i couldnt hunt like that..so i dropped it down a bit and it felt good...but like always..threw it outta whack. the tracers fly good with my regular arrows to 20yds but after that they were terrible..i really think the guy that put my string on this summer goofed up somehow. it just needs tweeked a bit..

that IS 3 for team 31...us PA boys are doin prettttty good this year. mine might not rank up there with you and franks..but i couldnt be any happier...knees were knockin and the whole 9yds..even let out a yell.

buck master...it sure is a feeling. ive killed 10 other deer. ive killed longbeards in the spring...ive caught the big fish...but nothing compares to this. nothing. last year, my first year i hit rock bottom hard. this year i muffed up a shot on a bigger buck..didnt even get a shot..this year i put in more time and work and effort into a hunting season than i ever have....it paid..it paid big. i think that helps my feeling. dead of summer and im soaked in sweat hanging treestands or scouting...late at night and i got maps and topos and ariel photos all over my room and my computer is half froze from having so much up..it made it that much sweeter..and its worth it..

everytime i look at that mount im going to get that feeling back. im going to see that arrow in flight. im gunna see those green and orange blazers sinking into the crease...i'll never forget

Way to go there buddy!
I remember when you were asking questions...just starting out bowhunting. You've done well Pilgrim!

Now...yes, get him mounted. If you ask your taxidermist real nice, he can fix that rub on the briskit. He will simply cut a football shaped hole where the hair is missing, and sew the skin together. Most times you will never be able to tell. There is plenty of skin. No big deal, it's common.

You guys are really documenting your kills this year. Makes some nice reading. The bar is constantly being raised.

Congrats on a memorable hunt.

thanx alot guys...you make me feel like i slammed a monster! to me i might as well have.

livbucks...i dont want that fixed. i mean if i did it dragging out or something, maybe. but he did it. to me, its character. just like a broken point, or the stickers mine has on the bases etc..who knows what its from...but it was there before i killed him and can stay there. my taxidermist is already going to hate me. i got an 1/8th inch of meat from the neck on the cape  we skinned him whole..im used to doing coons or squirrels or rabbits. we both skinned alot of deer, but neither one of us has cared and usually split the hide to make it easier on us...but we did good. i knew it was better to cut meat than poke 1000 holes lol...

i still cant believe it. a buck with my bow.

I think the Taxidermist would gladly trade a little extra fleshing for not having to sew a million holes. An 1/8th inch of meat is nothing. I've seen capes with almost an inch. That's a free meal! :D

RE: the post weve all been waiting for

Germ, i LOVE that suit. normally cold weather gear is WAY to bulky or way to noisy or uncomfortable. it was none of the above. i love it. i forgot...you must be inspector gadget...that coat got more pockets than anything ive ever seen lol. maybe i will do some tracking/still hunting late this winter looking for a doe with the flinter and get to wear it again.

i cant quit looking at the pictures. im STILL in awe. i know it may not seem like much to you guys...but im not most guys. ive only ever killed 2 bucks before this one. heck it wasnt till my 3rd year of hunting that i saw antlers on a deer while deer hunting! a buck with a bow been sounding impossible. either hes illegal or i mess up somehow or another, or i spend hours and days and weeks without seeing anything. i finally put it all together. 2 years aint much for the first bow buck, but look at the hours i log each year. i think i logged close to 50 this year(got 3 hunts to add in yet). last year i didnt keep track but know it was ALOT.

its just purely sweet success.

thank you all. i really appreciate all the words...all the help through the years..everyone reading my long posts;)...thanks guys...time to hit the gym...i got alot of deer to drive, gut and drag here soon come rifle season!! sure aint bowhunting...but we have fun..and i owe my buddies some deer for a change!

mauser06 10-15-2007 04:07 PM

RE: the post weve all been waiting for

thanx guys.

looks like i didnt post the shot pics...

i smashed both lungs and cut all the arteries or whatever off the top of the heart. one lung looked like i hit it with my Mauser;) the other was center punched. arrow blew straight through and the buck made it 20-30yds tops. watched him tip over. heard him suck air a couple times but i knew he was gone...i was VERY surprised at the lack of the blood trail. i TRIED to follow it back to find my arrow. i had a couple feet right before he dropped. you can see his hide is clean(i didnt touch it..) but inside was FULL of blood. guess it didnt reach the holes...i cannot complain. the 125gr 3blade muzzy did its job. i did mine:)..

you can see the entrance here a little better..i never took any of the shot...

(guess my buddy caught me off gaurd..but really looks like im looking down and admiring him lol...i like it

heres the entrance, hide off

heres the exit, hide off

i really couldnt be happier with the shot. heck if you look at the pic of "where he was standing" and the shot of his white belly laying, your looking at the same yellow tree in both pics..he didnt go anywhere. some reason the shot entrance looks higher than it was with the hide on. must be the angle...but you can see it good hide off. you can see where the blades sliced the far leg wide open on the way out too...it must been back when the arrow went though..

PS...talk about a FAT deer. that thing had 1/2 inch of fat on most of him. between that and the meat i left on the hide, my taxidermist might whoop me lol.

hope all my shots are like that. i just already know i gotta start THINKING. i never anchored, never thought about the shot(beautiful crease i put the pin there and let er go) dont remember releasing or anything. i just remember drawing and watching that arrow sail home..same thing with my turkey shootin. i woulda had this years mounted if i didnt blow it up by shooting it in the wing with hevishot:eek: i dont remember pulling the trigger lol...i need to slowwww down and think.

M06 you do not belong on the second page.

BTW you hit him perfect!!! To me that is better than a heart shot. The deer will run less than 50 yds when you hit them over the heart like you did. Take out the lungs and the arteries in one shot!!!! PERFECT, it's all PERFECT:D

mauser06 10-15-2007 08:41 PM

RE: the post weve all been waiting for

thanx guys...i cant believe this made it to Matt or Frank status...:D...i KNOW its a big deal to me. but you guys are alot more understanding. a couple of my friends couldnt believe me when i said hes going to the taxidermist. some people understand..true diehards like us. sure theres bigger and better bucks out there. i betcha within the next 10 yrs i kill a bigger one at some point..but nothing will compare to the first. i want to look up every night in bed and see him hanging above me. i want to picture that arrow sinking into his chest again and again.

i cant wait to get my hands back on them antlers friday!!

germ, thanks bud. i surely couldnt have gotten a better hit. he ran but i dont think it was real hard of a run. you could tell he was dead..but i dont think he charged off..i watched the arrow sink and my knees started hitting together lol..you know. i watched him run and he stopped and looked around and i watched the legs get shakey and down he went. got on the radio hoping my buddy was near and holler "BUCK down baby!!" then i let out a rebel yell.

my buddy came half jogging down the mountain..he was way uptop and on the other side. having him there made it that much sweeter..i was there for his this year. we kinda had a tag team thing goin on. i helped him scout and showed him the tree i would hunt. he hunted it and got it done. i helped him take the stands at camp down last year..never even hunted from them. guess its kinda good karma.

thanx guys....look for the update next year when i get the mount back...ive decided 100% that hes going on the wall...picking him up friday weather the meat is done or not and taking him saturday or sunday to get mounted. man mom might kill me if i put a head and cape in the fridge:D
