Back Tag Law

Well with the recent shooting of a PA hunter I was wondering what you think of this! I am all for the back tag law, we have it here in Wisconsin!

Vote and explain why you voted the way you did! What are your thoughts!

The back tag is your license that you wear on your back required by law. Its like 4 x 8 and has your DNR ID number on it in bold numbers for all to see!

We don't have a law like that here in in Illinois, but I don't see that it would matter when shotgunning. Do you have to wear one during archery also?

Wow that's a tough read...

Cha Vang was wearing one and thats how he was caught for the murder of 6 deerhunters in Northern Wisconsin! One of the wounded hunters scribbled his back tag number in the dirt on his 4 wheeler he was hiding behind as Vang walked off!

If thier big enough to serve thier purpose. You couldn't read Delaware's from 5' away and it is oncamoflage paper. Md had that law and did away with it. Thier's was the same size.
Here's a picture of my De license back tag from 3 feet away. You tell me what good is it, it catches on the bark of the tree, comes unhooked and falls off, more trouble than it's worth. If states are going to enforce the wearing of a back tag for goodness sake, make it so itserves it purpose

I don't like it. Hunting clothes are too expensive to be poking holes in and it causes nothing but problems when using a safety harness.

I voted no because we don'tuse them in Virginia and I don't like change!

im for it.. also allows DEC to help regulate poaching and illegal baglimits etc etc.. if they seee you hunting and dont have the correct color back tag... you gonna get stoppped!

You better not wear that expensive stuff in the woods a thorn might poke a hole in clothes or something???:D:D:D:D:D:D Just messing with ya!

I put the back tag thru my binocular buddy straps, works great! I always have my binos on and this way I don't forget them either!

I think that they're an unnecessary nuisance, plus they catch on things and are noisy.

You are the last one I thought would say that. Are you originally from IL?

P.S.-It is the holder you keep it in.

In Ohio we used to have to wear a back tag
Now we don't

As I under stand it the ODNR gave up on the idea because so many people lost the tags
And the paper tags were ruined in the rain and unreadable

I hated it because I spooked a buck or 2 , when the tag rubed the tree

A lot of you are still missing a point. It has to be big enough to read from a distance, if not it's useless.

In PA ours are reflective so me and a lot of folks i know turn them around so the tag number is unreadable as to a glare while bowhunting, it may never come into play but if a deer comes from behind he could catch a glare off the tag, although i am all for the law

I agree, believe me you can read the tag here in Wisconsin! The numbers are about 3.5 inches and in bold black on neon green this year! Very readable! When I have mine on I don't even know its there!

SO if you guys that are required to wear the back tag, when you shed layers as the day warms, or when you add layers of clothing as the day cools, you are required to unfasten the back tag and refasten it on the outer layer of clothing each time?

Never heard of it!

Back tags are not required to be worn in the Northern zone or catskill park according toDEC regs. I feel that you should not have to wear them.

Against it, our PA licenses are shiny metalic licenses. You sould see the shine off of them. I'm a fanatic about that in my treestand, law or no law, I wear my license on my backpack and it's hidden against the tree when I am in it. I figure with I'm walking, I'm legal...same goes for turkey hunting, when against a tree that is too small and that shiny license on my back...I don't think so...it's in my vest. I consider it dangerous if someone sneaks in behind me or just dumb in a gobbler sneaks in behind me.

peakrut 10-14-2007 11:23 PM

RE: Back Tag Law

I do the same even though ours are not metallic during bow season. As for gun season it remains on the back of my jacket.

Against. I'm not wearing anything white during gun season. Besides, the bright orange vest or hat works just fine.

I don't see how a back tag is going to make the sport safer? If I'm already wearing blaze orange how is a 4X6 tag going to be more visable? From a violation standpoint it might help in the ID of a violator?

I guess it's something you get use to but,I would hate the hassle of having to move the back tage everytime I want to add a jacket or take one off because of a temp change, the wind picks up, starts to rain, etc.

Im for it , and as has been stated already its been the law in Pa for some time .
