The law says that starting today, all bowhunters must wear orange on head and torso while walking and have a specified minimum amount of orange displayed, on their tree, visible from 360 degrees while sitting on stand. I wonder if the bowhunter followed the law. Even if he didn't, there is still no excuse for shooting him.
I was nearly shot in this same way once. I was so pissed I jumped out of the tree and chased the perp. I actually knew him. He was my next door neighbor!:eek:

I have always worried about something like this happening to me personally. Even more so in the past few years since I now have 2 kids at home. I cannot even imagine why a person would shoot another hunter. It just makes no sense to me. I know people can be territorial and fight over land but that's still no excuse.

That really burns me. How can someone mistake a hunter for a squirrell? Something else is going to come out on this story. Just too weird!

Sounds strange to me. Even a guy in camo with no blaze orange I can see in a treestand. Something is fishy here. Whats with squirel hunting anyways....... are they really that good to eat? Here in MB I need a trappers lic to shoot, b/c they are considered a fur bearing animal. I could head out to the bush I hunt and shoot 1 million sq's a day but what for?

Something else to this ..... OR... the slug should be hung by the family jewels for running off and leaving the kid. Seems like they have enough info on description and vehicle and all that to run the guy down. Were they all hunting on the road or something that they saw his vehicle and all that??????? /???????

I've had a squirrel hunter approach my tree. As he approached, I thought it a good idea to switch my hat over to the blaze orange side. We chatted, and he remarked that he could not decide what he was looking at until I displayed the blaze orange. I'm glad he held his fire until he was sure of his target! Some people, unfortunately, don't.

same exact thing happened to a guy i went to high school with. he would have died if he wasn't hunting w/ a friend. his friend saved his life and identified the guy that did it.

I just caught an update at the 11pm news and apparently the hunter is recovering well in the hospital. He had pellets on the right side of his body from his face down to his hip. Thankfully his hunting buddy was only about 250 feet away and was able to call for help. The fire department used a ladder to get the boy down from his stand and then transported him to a nearby park where he was flown to the hospital in a helicopter. Other hunters were able to give a description and vehicle information to the authorities so hopefully they person gets caught or better yet turns himself in.

As I understand it the boy did attempt to alert this squirrel hunter to his presence. I'm not sure if the motion set off the hunter or if there was another reason. But regardless one of the first rules they teach you in hunters safety is topositively identify your target. But there is still no excuse for leaving the scene.

It's badwhen turkey hunters get shotby other turkey hunterbut come on, a hunter in a treestand:eek:and by a guy squirrel hunting. Glad he will be alright and hope he returns to hunt another day and not be frightened off by the experience.
