Home made walk in cooler?

Anyone have any experience making one? The link shows a product that allows you to use an AC unit. I'd be interested in what any HVAC guys think of this. With warm temps more the norm into november even, I would like to have one.

we were thinking about this idea ourselves at our place for next year what we are doing is building a cooler about about 7x7 with a 10 foot ceiling insulate it and then use a window unit air conditioner and bypass the thermostat and the cooler will be plenty cold for hanging deer not sure how the to bypass thermostat my dad had the idea and he has been around hvac for 30 years just my .02

I am actually looking at buying a house that has 2 garages. (2 car each)... I was thinking about getting myself something like that set up. Turn one of the garages into a butcher shop was an idea, and now I think I will have to make myself a little walk-in!!

I'm not sure what the device does other than bypassing the thermostat. If thats all it does, it should cost less.

I bone mine out right after the kill, no need for that since the carcass can't go into rictus. I've never been able to tell hung meat from fresh boned, both have been equally tender.

$300?? Just to make your a/c blow longer?? It cant make it blow colder right?? Just makes it not shut off for a longer period. Seems kinda steep to me.

I actually spoke to a guy the other day that made his own. It wasnt a walk in cooler, but it was a used stand up pepsi cooler. He drilled a hole in the top and put a 1/2'' hanger in the top center of it and made a stainless gambrel to hang the deer up inside. He kept the cooler at 34deg. and in the summer he would put the shelving back in and use it for a beverage cooler.

I actually really liked the idea!! He tried to sell it to me for $300 but it wasnt anything I needed for now, I have to get a new climber since mine was stolen, so instead of spending the money on the cooler it will be going towards a new climber!

being in the commercial refrigeration business, i gotta tell you I'm skeptical......I'd have to see it myself
