An interesting first hunt
I get out to the property that i hunt nice and early, about an hour before shooting time to give myself plenty of time to get in and relax. Not to mention the fact that i was up an hour before my alarm went off without being able to fall back to sleep. Anyhow, I put up a new tree stand at the end ofa drainage path in a corn field. The only way to get to it is walking down through the drainage area. I have decided that i wouldnt hunt this stand until closer to the rut...i want to save it. I get out of the truck and the wind is absolutely perfect for this stand and i couldnt resist. I get about 50 yards from the truck and head down into the drainage slot. On my about my 5th step I get the about the loudest blow from a deer you could imagine followed by what sounded like a damn horse taking three galloping trots away. I have kicked up plenty of deer over the past few years and this was just an unimaginable thud as this deer hit the ground running. I wait about a minute and decide that i will continue down my path, with any luck this deer will continue his path and funnel down past this stand. Immediately after my first step lands the monster comes crashing towards me through the corn! Talk about pissing your pants! One leap back into the corn to conceal myself and out busts the siloette of a complete monster 20 yards away. For the next 2-5 mins.....it felt like an eternity.....he stood out in the opened snorting, blowing and stomping his foot trying to put a placement on me, ( i was on his downwind side.)....he then trotted right down the drainage area to where my stand is located. I did a 360 and wandered off to plan b to see nothing else on the day but that got me excited to get down into that stand. I am just so happy to know that big daddy is hanging around!...although ill pass on his charging towards me in curiosity!
