Random thinking about scent control.
 

Well, I was sitting on stand again last night, and I had another thought. I know that everyone does their best for scent control and all of that other good stuff when they are hunting, but what about after you take a deer? Let's say you shoot a mature doe and you need help tracking it and draging it out. You call up Bubba who's been sitting at home all day to come and give you a hand. I'm pretty sure most of the time Bubba isn't going to take the time to quick stop and make himself all scent free. He is going to be leaving his scent in the woods that you have worked hard to keep scent free! How many of you have your "help" take a few minutes to get scent freen before they come help you? Now keep in mind that you may still have that buck tag to fill, and you are going to be hunting at the same place!

i have never really thought of that when i have had someone come and help me drag one out, but i guess if they are willing to come and help i don't know if i would really worry about it but that is just me.

Once a deer is shot, I don't worry about scent control. I actually head back to camp before I recover and drag a deer so I don't stink my hunting clothes up by getting sweaty. I have a specific set of clothes and shoes that I use for all recovery.

im like Rick James. if i shoot, or get called to track or drag, im loosin the hunting gear and gettin one something different. if i shoot i may not change if it wont be a long track(for picture sake;)) but often times i will change to keep my clothes clean and put on my 10" leather boots for dragging purposes...

If I am sitting in my house at 7:00pm watchingmy favorite TV show all comfy in my Lazyboyand you call me to help drag out a deer that you shot you had better not get too picky about what I look like and howI smell when I get there.

That is unless you want to drag it out by yourself. ;)

I hunt with a good bunch of guys they are pretty smart when it comes to things like that as I would be when they call me. Always wear rubber boots and when the deer is found drag it out and gut it away from where the stand is! I have clothes just for that purpose that I only wear in the woods, takes less that a minute to change clothes!

After a few days and hopefully some rain and your spot will be fine! Deer can tell f you just walk thru the area or walked thru a couple of days earlier by how strong the scent is!

never really worried about it, I will however wait several days or for a good rainstorm to hunt the immediate area again

I really don't see the point in changing clothes to something that you "only wear into the woods". The clothes you have on don't change the fact that you still smell like a human being. Your hands grabbing the tree branches, pushing bushes aside, sweat dripping off your forehead,etc... leave more scent than the shirt you have on does.

I'm not too picky myself when it comes to getting help. It was just me doing some random thinking again.
