Hard Questions III

You finally wrangle some time to visit a relative out of state for some nice mellow private land hunting.

100 yds down the hedgerow from where you are hunting, is an invited hunter who, in the recent past, wounded and lost (after truly minimal tracking effort) the 2 biggest bucksever seen on the property.

A nice young 10 point that youpassed onthe night before(it really could use another year or 2)is working up the trail between you and the invited hunter. It looks like in 2 minutes he'll be in your shooting lane, ina few morehe'll passwithin 35yds of the other guy.

Your relative hasn't placed any minimum size on bucksand hasn't ever gotten anything bigger than a forkhorn himself.

What would you do?

At my level seing how i only have one bow kill, i would give any 10 pointer the shaft. Sorry for let go and let it gorw guys i agree, but if you not hunting a huge track of land odds are someone else is going to shoot it.

Pass him up. Unless you really want him. Shooting a deer just to keep someone else from shooting it is BS.

First, I wouldn't pass up a ten pointer [:-]:DIf I did the previous night, however, I would scare him away ..... pee on him, or something to not let the bozo down the trail get a shot, in the hopes he might wise up next year or so ......;)

I would probably shoot him, but not to keep the other guy from getting him. I would not pass a ten point period at this point in my life. If it was a buck that I did not want to take, I would probably let the buck pass. If the other hunter got a shoot, I would congratulate him and help him track the deer. If it was a bad shoot, maybe offer to help him check his equipment. He might learn something to make him a better hunter in the process.

If I were passing up smaller bucks. I'd pass him up again. If the other hunter shot it, I'd help him to properly blood trail the buck and hopefully the deer would be recovered and more importantly, he'd learn something.

I'd never shoot a deer justto spite someone else.
