Pick 5 days off...

I plan on taking 5 days off to bow hunt the rut. I've been trying to do this for 4 years and I think it's finally going to happen!! What 5 days should I take off?

I would take the 7-11th off but I am hunting Kansas. Good luck.

I'd pick the later the better. When I shot my '06 8-pointer......it was almost mid-Dec......and he was still chasing late estrous does. There's so many does, here.......there's almost always going to be a few in estrous. The bucks, here, were chasing all the way through our season (late).

The best two days ofmonster bucksbein put in the dirtherehas always proven to be the closest weekend to the 3rd and 4th of november (actually the most book bucks taken are typically registered on the 3rd and 4th of december here). So I guess this year its lookin like the 3rd through the 7th. or maybe Id say the 2nd through the 6th. WCL

7th through the 11th assuming you can hunt Sunday the 11th. I'm off regardless that week with our season ending on the 10th.

In the words of the Drury's "cough", they've taken more mature animals on the 3 days of the 8th through the 10th of Nov.

I was leaning towards 7-11, seems like I remember a post where a lot of guys were taking bucks on the 9th. I rarely ever get to take this many days off together.

Last year I took the first week in November off and got mine on the first day of vacation about 2 hours into the hunt. The rut hit here hard the next week. This year I'm taking the first week in November off again. You don't mess with success.

I picked the 5th-9th because it's got my favorite 2 days in it, the 7th and the 9th. However, I will be taking off the 1st - 30th. Respect.

I took Nov. 2nd through the 11th off this year. From all the predictions I should hit it just right, starting the seeking phase and my hunt should end just about the time the big boys get locked down. Last year I was about a week late, I had two good days of hunting then all the bucks vanished. Thats what happens during the lockdown part of the rut.

Well I am off from Oct.17th thru nov.18th, so it looks like I have them all covered. The past three years I have seen the most Buck activity the second week of Nov. Good luck to everyone this year.

If you call yourlocal DNR office, they will know the rut dates for your local area... it is one of the first phone calls i make after i move to a new area. IE: Nov.9th-11th in Upsate NY, Jan 15-25 in the panhandle of FL.

I am from NW Ill. & now live in N.E. Iowa on the Ill/Ia border. This is the start of my 51st year of Bowhunting.
5th through 9th plus a weekend on each end. I have seen in MY AREA the most Buck activity during this time in the past 3 years. Good Luck.

I said the 5th - 9th, but I am taking almost the whole month off. I will be checking into work after the hunt and be available for any emergencies but otherwise I am off from november 2nd right through the 30th.

I would pick Nov. 7-11. But I get plenty of vacation and have Oct.27 thru Nov.14 off, so I have them all covered.

My favorite 5 days are Nov 2 (160" 13pt), Nov 5(130" 8pt), Nov9 (150" 10pt), Nov. 10 (130" 8pt) and Nov. 13th(157" 13pt, 125" 8pt and 130" 9 pt). But I only get Nov. 2 thru Nov. 25 this year. There also is an awesome period to hunt around Dec1.

The last choice, both Pope and Young bucks have come on November 13th. I see more big bucks roaming during broad daylight the dates of Nov. 10th- 16th.

Pick the dates that will be closest to the rut. Here it's the middle of Nov.

My vacation is Oct 29th-Nov 18th. I have enough time that I can cover the whole pre-rut and rut. If I were to narrow it down Id say the Nov 5th-9th.

I myself love the first 10 days of November! November 6th for some odd reason has been my best day through out the years bow hunting.

im taking nov.5-9 off even though last year i shot my buck on the 16th (s.e. kansas). but i will have to say that from the "action we saw" it was on the downhill slide of the peak rut.

It all depends on the weather, but if I had to pick, it would be 5-9 or 7-11.

RE: Pick 5 days off...

My vacation is from 10/31 thru 12/2 so i have everything covered. My only P&Y buck was shot on 10/30 and he was chasing a doe. In southern NY we usually see bucks chasing does from around 10/28 till about11/13. I would have to say that the most activity occurs around the 5th-9th so i picked that one in the poll.
