Buck Attack

I was walking out of the woods the other day & came about 15 yards from a decent size 10-12 pointer. as soon as i saw him he saw me & I froze. He bent over & kept eating for a minute & Then about5-10 minutes later justwalkedaway. Whats the best thing to do in this situation? Would it come after me? just wondering cuz it kinda freaked me out.

Well I'll share a story....a few years ago in Iowa, I was walking to my stand through some tall grass spotted withcedar trees.......I heard some crashing/running, and figured I just kicked some deer up as I had the evening before (afternoon hunt). Anyways, it was actually a nice sized 8 (140'' or so) chasing does.....from about 20 yards, it saw my figure through the trees, and must have thought I was a rival buck in his area. He instantly charged me, and my split second decision was to dive underneath one of the cedars, lol. I got to the base of the tree, he was at the outskirt of the branches, and started circling the tree to where my feet were hanging out.....I had thrown my bow on the dive....and you'll all laugh after you hear this next part....I started yelling at it and kicking my feet, he paused, and then took off!

It was neat/somewhat scary all together.....

Yes, that is a funny story.

99.99999% of the time they will not charge so don't worry about that. Just enjoy being close to them.

Yeah, it was pretty nuts.....I remember being at the base of the evergreen/cedar, looking up through the branches at this nice buck that was literally 5-7 feet away. I ended up shooting the buck in my avatar pic from the same stand two days later, and I like to tell myself I got him in the end, but I can't be certain it was the same buck.....

The guys at camp thought I was full of you know what, but I definitely was not!

This is what I'd thought your post was about when I saw the subject;Deer gores, kills 66-year-old Ball Ground man

A 66-year-old Ball Ground man was attacked and killed by a deer Sunday night, authorities said.
The deer — most likely a red deer, and not the more commonly found white-tailed deer — was one of several that John Henry Frix kept on his vast property on Trail of Tears Trail off Yellow Creek Road.

More Cherokee news

His relatives told sheriff's deputies that the deer had been very aggressive lately, chalking its behavior to rut — the period when deer mate.
Frix had gone out to tend to the deer about 7 p.m., county sheriff's Sgt. Jay Baker said. When he didn't return, his relatives called authorities.
Deputies found him about an hour and a half later lying inside one of the pens, 100 yards from the home. He had been gored several times in the upper body by the antlers of the deer, Baker said.
It appeared that Frix tried to fight off the animal, which was the size of a small elk, but was unsuccessful, authorities said.
Frix's family, reached by telephone Sunday night, did not want to talk about the death. One of them later killed the animal.
"I've heard about [such deaths] in the news, but I don't know if we've ever had a man killed by a deer in Cherokee County," Baker said.
Although deer kill about 150 people a year in the United States, most of these deaths occur when the animals collide with cars. However, deaths such as Frix's are not altogether uncommon.
Most attacks take place during rut — when daylight hours shorten. The results of mating produce an offspring in spring months when food in the wild is plentiful and the warm temperature prevents hypothermia.
During this time, the normally docile creatures become aggressive, locking antlers and fighting with other deer to prove their superiority as a breeding partner.

ps:
Sorry, I'm not trying to hijack your post, just thought it was interesting.

I think that's why you don't put buck lure on yourself, so they don't mistake you for another buck. lol I was charged once but that was a wounded buck durring rut. Chances are slim to be attacked by a buck but durring rut, anything can happen. Stick an arrow in him and track him too soon is your best chance of getting stomped on. lol It worked for me.
