Hard Questions Part II

It's the 3 p.m., the last day of bow season you are hunting a public land and have yet to arrow a deer. Monday the gun seasons start.

You look to the right and see a nice buck working in and out of the field edge about 90 yards out! After 10 minutes the buck is about 75yds and seems to be working toward your stand.

You look left and see another deer at 60yds, after a minute or so you determine it's a mature doe and it's making a bee line for your 15 yd shooting lane. You look over at the buck and he's at 70yds making a scrape. He's a decent 8 not a monster, but would be your best with a bow.

The doe is now at 45yds and closing fast. The buck has closed to 60, but is starting to angle away a little. You estimate 2 minutes til the doe hits the lane.

What do you do, take the easy doe or hope the buck is still in range when he reaches your lanes?

PS Your grunt tube is on the ground having fallen when you put on you coat.

PPS You see the doe has an arrow stuck in it's ham (12"+ sticking out) there's a little blood and it's still bright (fresh).

PPPS The buck just grunted (at the doe?????????????????)

When I got to the "arrow" part in the doe......I immediately forget about the buck.

No question.....I take that doe, if offered the shot.

NO question.....

take the doe. i would take a cripple before a booner every time, even if they both were broadside at 20 yards.

Have to shoot the doe and finish the job. there is always another hunt for the buck even if it means waiting until next year. For me that isn't a hard question at all.

Wait on the buck. I have seen many a deer live for years with injuries.

Yep, taking an injured doe is more important than takinga healthy buck.

Sheesh, too many PS's. I would take the doe just because she was hit already.

PSSSSS - and the Doe had 2 little spots with her. Then what??

I would be extra stealthy and shoot the doe, my bow is so quiet the buck may not notice - but seriously would take the doe first

You just had to throw that kicker in there about the doe! :)
I would take the doe just to make sure she didn't suffer. Yes deer can live with injuries, but with the arrow sticking out of her it's a different ballgame.

It's funny I just watched a hunting show where Jeff Foxworthy shot a wounded buck to take it out of it's misery (huge gaping hole in front leg). Some people have all the luck and fortune, [:@]this buck was a trophy in my book. Real nice ten point that probably scored in the 130-140 area.

I'd lob one at the buck..while it was in the air reload and smoke the doe. She'd be dead before the 1st arrow reached the buck!

I would take out the wounded doe. And hope the buck keeps on truckin', you never said I couldn't still have both my tags.

This is what I was thinking. Work it somehow to get both on the ground.
