First Blood of 07
 

It was a slow one today in the P.A. woods I was hunting. Not much really moving with the exception of a few squirrel and some turkey. Around 815 I caught a glimpse of movement about 20 yards in front of me. I didn't have a shot but grabbed my bow just in case as I watched the deer turn into the underbrush and disappear. I sat there for a while with no movement and saw a ground hog around 845 or so. I decided I was going to climb out of my stand anyways so I figured I'd stick me a ground pig. I'm not really sure what happened but I ended up missing it. As my arrow smacked the dirt I caught the movement in front of me again. Apparantly the deer I had seen about a half hour earlier didn't pass through but bedded down within 15 yards in the brush without me knowing. When it heard my arrow smack the dirt it got startled and jumped up. I hurridly knocked another arrow and got my bow drawn back and a 20 yard broadside shot later I had a deer on the ground. The deer fell within sight and only made it about 30 yards before climbing and then rolling back down the hill behind me in the picture. Single lung and a destroyed liver....the muzzy did its job

Thanks guys. Just thought I would add before someone asks. No I didn't wear a plain white tee shirt hunting. I actually was wearing the Realtree AP Scent-lok ;) I took the rest of my gear home before I went I went to get it out. That and I had to pick up my camera. I usually never leave home without it, but this morning something just made me say piss on it...that won't happen again

As would I LOL I guess it just wasn't the pigs day to die and the doe took it instead. What a great friend :D Now the fiance can finally get her deer jerkey she's been craving. Who knows, maybe next she'll have a craving for some black bear and I'll finally get the chance to get bear hunting

I hear that. It was 92 degrees here at the local bank today. I got the thing all caped out (i'm gonna try mounting it myself)and its hangin in the garage until the morning when I can get it taken care of. The meat stayed cool for most of the day with some ice in the cavity and with a50 degree temp right now, it won't last much longer
