I had a young buck bed behind a tree 14 yds from me last year for 3:40. The sun was casting my shadow on him.....and I was sticking my hand out.....and the shadow of my hand looked like I was petting him.
It was a really neat encounter.....and I watched him groom himself like a house cat. He would tuck his head inside his back thigh....and his antlers went straight down his back when he did this. I never saw his eyes actually closed while he slept.....but the way he had his head tucked in was absolutely a cool thing to witness. I'll never forget that.

Man, that beats my opening morning. All I saw was 5 does and 2 doe fawns. Still a nice morning though and I enjoyed watching them.
Sounds like you should have a productive year with your non-nocternal bucks

Edit: if you check out my pic on Team 17 thread, you will know why I mentioined your "non-nocternal" bucks... My bucks like to close the bar first if you know what I mean.

good luck with Mr mass!! sounds like a goodun...id say that was a good opening morning!! neat pics and video too....i dont know how you pulled that off. i always wanted to try to snap pics...but my digital camera lense comes out when you turn it on and makes a little noise...i never tried that close...tried on a fox last year...he busted me before i got it out lol
