Age This Deer

Got this photo the other day off my Camtrakker Digital Ranger. After having a few problems w/the camera this summer I finally got the kinks worked out and couldn't be happier. Trigger speed rocks, and as you can see the photo quality is second to none. After using Moultrie, Stealth, and Cuddeback which all have their problems I have to admit this is the camera I've had the best luck with, and been the happiest with over the last month.

So you decide, is he a 2 1/2 or a really nice 1 1/2 with great potential?

Tough call because we don't see a profile view of him to see his chest, back and belly but from the looks of him at this angle, I say 2.5 and I'd give him at least another year but the moment of truth would be when he stands in front of me.;)

I think it is a great looking 1 1/2.

I'd have to say 1.5 myself, that's what I'd call him from what I can see.

Again....total novice at this....but his neck would indicate to me that he's 2.5 yrs.

Take it with a grain of salt......

I'd also like to know when the pic was taken....just to know.

I'm voting 1 1/2 on this one. I know the 2 1/2 year olds on this farm are almost always in the 100-110 inch range, which this guy is not. And even though you can't see the profile, he looks narrow.

Furthermore, here is another photo of the 1 1/2 year old I mistakenly took for a 2 1/2 last fall and put an arrow through is boiler room. At first glance coming through the woods you think 2 year old, when he's on the ground there's no mistake he was just a great 1 1/2. Same farm.

I like to see them from the side also, from what I can see he looks young, a good 1 1/2 year old.

He's definately slim, I'd still love to see a profile. He's a hell of a 1.5 year old if he is. I don't know. Last year I had a great 1.5 year old like him, he was all but as big as a 2.5 year old he was running with. I hope they both are there this year one year older. See below, the 7 point in the back was a 1.5 year old last year.

Look at the difference in the snout length in the two. That jumped out at me right away. I'm not saying I'm right by any means.....just an observation.

I would guess 1.5yr old. Seems awfully narrow for one older than that.

I guessed 2.5, but I also know this......If he showed up in front of my stand, his life expectancy would drop dramatically.....;)

I'd say 2 1/2 based on the facial structure. Look at the difference between it and Justin's 11/2 year old.

Thats a great quality picture. Just looked at their website. Camera looks like a "manufactured homebrew" if there is such a thing.

1 1/2 the body is too small...

I guessed 1.5 before reading the entire post. And I still say 1.5. Wow, that little buck taken has that fawn look in the face and looks to be tiny.

i'd say 2 to 2 1/2

Long, narrow face. Thin lines. Tight skin. No belly (from what I can see). I am gonna say 1 1/2.

It looks like we're split down the middle on this one. Hopefully I can get a few more photos of him before the season is over so we can make a better judgement call. I do have one other picture of him, but it's after dark and he's far away from the camera with another buck. You can just make out that it's him and that's about all. I'll see if I can post it up here in a little bit.

same here.... it'd be a 2 1/2 down here in Tx

Okay, here's the kicker that may change some of your votes. He's on the left, with a buck I would consider 2 1/2 for these parts on the right.

Now tell me what you think. ;)

For an IL deer he is a 1.5 year old in my book. Too thin in the bodyto be 2.5 and anarrow rack. 2.5 year olds in my area weigh 150-170 pounds. I don't see him tippiong the scales at that weight.

It depends on what state this deer is from. If he's from Iowa, I'd say a 1.5 year old. If he's from PA, I'd say he's 2.5. No offense PA guys ;)

I've seen spikes rebound the following year and look very similar to that one.

Overall, I think the deer in the trail cam pictures is a 1.5 year old. And as for the oneyou harvested last fall, he is clearly a 2.5 year old. I've never seen a 1.5 year old deer with G3's like that and somewhat of a neck to boot.2.5 yearold all the way, so don't feel bad. Your initial thoughts when he waswalking through the woods were right in my opinion.

Im still thinking he is a 2.5...just doesnt look 1.5 to me. But then again neither doe the other deer that you posted that i was killed last year so who knows [&:]
