It's taken me a day to realize how to handle theft
If you read where I had my feeder and lock-on stolen (along with my Summit climbing system....bow hook.....haul line....ladder...and tree steps).....you'll understand how a LOT of things went through my head, yesterday and last night, about what to do.
I think I have it figured out. I'm going to buy a disc......and plant the entire field in a food plot for next season. it'll cost me another $500 for the disc.....but I'll save that in feed. I'll just hunt the food plot, now.....whereas I didn't hunt the feeder. $500 for a disc.....and another $500 in seed, fertilizer and lime.....and I'm out the $1K I likely spend on food for a year, anyway......and I don't let them "win". I'm the only person that's supposed to be on this property. I need to react with that in mind.....and not let them run me out of there. |

sorry to hear about the theft, it sucks. My neighbor had a ladder stand stolen a few weeks ago. My nearly new popup camper was sitting 100 yards away unlocked. i got lucky!! (it's locked 3 ways now).
You probably already know this but it's very rewarding hunting over a food plot. I wouldn't guess that hunting over a feeder (not that you do it) would give the same feeling. making the food plot is a lot of fun too. Tractor suppply has a nice atv disc made by king kutter for 429. It's not the flipover kind. worked great on my plot, you'll have to add weight to it though. |

Feels like a kick in the gut don't it. I find it hard to beleive another hunter would do that so it must have been wood fairies or a PETA assault team. Sometimes there seems to be more maggots in my woods than deer.

I know it is a pain in the neck to have to deal with people like that, but keeping a clear mind and not letting anger get in the way seems to have lead you to a great solution. Best of luck and here's to seeing a pic of you with your monster buck taken over your food plot next year!!!

No....I know who did it (I have a good idea). I won't tarnish the rest of you by lumping them in with "hunters", though. They're maggots....bottom feeders.....and always have been. they used to own the land I hunt on.....and gambled and pissed it away years ago. What used to be a family farm of hundreds of acres.....has been reduced to an old house on one acre that someone probably let them keep out of kindness. I wish that person hadnt been so kind, years ago.
Thanks, Rick.....your food plot is THE nodel I want to emulate. good job with it. I'm going to get the disc Rob/PA has (and he got his from tractor supply.....might be the same one mentioned). Yeah....it'll be fun doing it. |
RE: It's taken me a day to realize how to handle theft
Been through that before Jeff. I had a trail camera and a stand stolen less than 200 yards from my house last year. I checked them in mid January towards the end of bow season. I went out to take them down a few days later and both were gone. Like you, I'm 99% sure who did it. Not much you can do about it, but it sure feels like you just got kicked in the biscuits. All my stands are locked now...kinda sad that I have to do that on 30 acres behind my house.[>:]
