Default Surprise! Camera Pick

This is a pick from my friends blind, I have two places to hunt here in NC. I was looking for a spot for my climber at my other spot and walked up on a bear, but not as big as this one. I am nervous, are black bears aggressive?

They might be aggressive if yer a REAL BIG jerk to em......other wise theyll just see you and run away or run up a tree.

Only time they are really aggressive is when you get between mom and her cubs, or you come across them and a fresh kill of theirs, or they are a hungry bear and smell blood from your kill and will try to take your kill from you, but those are actually fairly rare occasions so other then that they tend to be more scared of us.....but thats not always the case, thats why when im in bear country i have either bear spray, or a big azz knife, or both.

If he walked up on my while I was bowhunting a stand I'd stick an arrow in him. In Arkansas, open bow deer, is open bow bear. However, make sure you have an easy way to get the dude out of there. They tend to be slightlyheavier than a deer.

But bear meat is pretty tasty...

Sweet pic!

Black bears are more unpredictable than any other bear, they may bluff charge or they may go ahead and have you for super. I had a very close encounter witha good sized sow last year that had cubs not too far off. These are the worst ones to run into. Be careful as they may attack witout warning.

I have yet to see a bear in the woods that did not take off full tilt the moment he realized what I was. ( A rock hard cold blooded killer ). Alberta bears and such might be packing a bit more piss and vineger but for themost part eastern bears know the fear of man.
Heck I would run if I thought the guy was packing say a .45 cal ultra. .
Oh yes probably already said above but DON'T play dead. Bear like to eat dead things.Or a well placed arrow on a charging bear???? NAH...
