Hunting Turkeys with a Bow
 

In Kentucky,turkeyarchery season is theduring of our deer bow season. I was wondering where the best shot placement is located on a turkeyfor bowhunting. Should I go for a head shot?

I would aim top breast/base of the neck if the turkey was facing me. Aim for the wing joint when it's broadside.

Your shot placement really depends on how the bird is facing and where your angle is , if your in a treestand for example your shot should be in the center of the birds back inbetween the wings.
Looking at the pictures below will give an idea on where to aim no matter what angle your shooting from , if hunting from the ground go for the broadside shot if possiable.





The only way I would go for a head shot with a bow as if the bird had it's neck streched out and if it was very close within twenty yards , trying to decapitate a turkey with a boardhead is very hard.

Another thing I would recommend is the use of a Grasshopper or Adder washer between the arrow shaft the the broadhead. This will keep the arrow from passing through the bird. And with a broadhead stuck in its body, it is very difficult for a gobbler to run or fly.

Follow the chart above and forget the head shots, especially if you're talking about shooting at birds that may be walking past your deerstand.
