Ive got a neighbor who has an extrememly crucial apx 10acres. this is where the deer are at, the guy is a strait up grouch. i tried asking him last year for permission and he didnt even let me finish my sentence....he's got a big problem with the gun shooting with all the houses around. so would it be worth trying to convince him of letting me bow hunt or just leave him alone? i never talk to the guy and hes always be hateful when we do come into contact. so persistence or peace??

Maybe you can sweeten the deal by letting him know it will only be you and not a group of guys. Let him know that you will respect his land an take care of it as if it were your own... The worst he can do is say no... again.

Offer to pay for and do the work posting it to keep the gun hunters off it and see if he needs any help with manual labor around the place. I just locked up over 100 acres of adjoining property next to my place by offering to post his place for him. He hates gun hunters too and didn't want people on his place and is too old now to patrol it. He said OK as long as I give him a backstrap.......[8D]

I had permission to hunt 40 acres at one time. I treated as I would my own. One day I went to go hunting and as usual, stopped by to let the landowner my intent. When I drove up his drive, he met me outside with a gun in his hands and told me to leave. I agreed to leave, but asked him why the change of heart after my hunting the property for 5 years. He calmed down a little when he realized who I was and told me that someone had trespassed on the property and shot way too close to the house. The slug entered the kitchen window and missed his wife by inches. His wife's face was cut by flying glass and since that day, no one could any longer hunt his land. I still stop by to see them when I'm in the area, just to say hi. In your situation, the gentleman may very well have experienced a situation similar to this. Offering to help him out in return for bow hunting rights may work, but personally I would try just helping him out as a good neighbor and maybe he'd offer his land to hunt in return. Good luck.

Oki will...Jeff is kinda becoming my mentor at everything hunting.... i wonder how he feels about that?:)
