I have a ladder stand at 16' and I go up with my climber depending on the surroundings around 20-25 feet. Also, have a couple lock-ons at 20 feet.

I usually try to get 20' at least or higher. Hunted once last year when I ranged the ground at 12 yards.

Under normal conditions I like to stay around 20 feet. If the woods are bare and the tree allows I will go 25-27. I don't like to go any higher because of the steep angle it creates. The lowest I will go is around 15 and it has to be an awesome spot that I really want to set up in.

12-15' for me. I am a little nervous with hights. I have not had any problem seeing deer at those hights either.

the cover determines the height. An average of 15 to 20'

RE: HOW HIGH to you FLY ??

last year i tried to get as high as possible. 20-25ft usually. this year, i am realizing i really dont NEED to. last year my lower stands worked well. gotta have cover and watch the wind and your movement..but it will work. like bob, if for no other reason, i like the shot angle better.

im by no means afraid of heights. if someone else ties the knots i will rapell off anything...heights dont bother me...but i am more comfortable in my stands that are 15-20ft high.

alot depends on terrain and cover for me. say the wind is wrong to hunt a ridge to west, i will often STILL hunt that ridge by hunting below it, instead of above it..but i try to get higher so im still above the deer. i do that by getting closer to the trail and climbing a little higher.

i find i will climb higher in a climber than my lock ons. after hunting out of my summit viper, i cant get used to the lock ons. not comfy...dont feel as safe...not as big etc...so those are lower...but i have the advantage of hanging them right in clusters of branches etc so i got good cover...

Going higher (20-30ft.)in my opinion gives us an advantage overdeer in so many ways. Scent, getting away with movement, spottingdeer sooner just to name a few. The key is being comfortable with your height and practicing your shooting from those heights. My brother-in-law jokingly calls me"John Glen" sometimes b/c of how high I like to go. I guess I just feel moreconfident the higher I go like nothing can pick me off, or bust me while drawing back. Not to say that you can't harvest a deer from 10 feet, but I would hate to be in a situation where I wished I had gone higher and have it cost me the deer of a lifetime!
