RE: What grain broadhead should I shoot?
i would say a 100gr or 150gr muzzy

RE: What grain broadhead should I shoot?
The most common grains of broadheads would be 100 or 125. However, I have used broadheads that weighed from 90-145. Personally I prefer the 100 grains. I shoot 65lbs with a 28.5 inch arrow. I have not had any problems passing through a deer. Also are you considering cut on contact, replaceable blade or mechanical...it all makes a difference.

RE: What grain broadhead should I shoot?
I have tried to shoot a Muzzy 100 and 125 and they both fly off to the left.A slick trick I used sot fairly well though. It was 100 gr.But I am a muzzy believer and wondered if I should try a lighter Muzzy

RE: What grain broadhead should I shoot?
Arrow length 28 3/4 in
Fletch size 3" Vane Draw 28 1/2 |
RE: What grain broadhead should I shoot?
I have the Hoyt Vectix, 28" Draw @ 68 lbs and I switched to 100gr Rage three blade expandables with the o-ring. Last year I was shooting a PSE and used a Synper 100gr 2 blade and it did the job pretty quick, he only ran about 30 yards before he expired. My hunting partner shot his buck with the same snyper and it didn't go far either. Hopefully, I'll let you know if a few weeks how the 3 blade rages do. The synper and rage are the same company now.

RE: What grain broadhead should I shoot?
i like 125's but 100's are good

RE: What grain broadhead should I shoot?
Given the info you provided, you are probably under-spined the way it is, so I wouldn't go more than 100gr (increasing the tip weight will weaken your arrow even more). This may be the reason you are shooting off to the left. Try decreasing your draw weight down to about 60lbs and see how they fly. If you are set on shooting 64lbs, I would step up to the 340 spine.

RE: What grain broadhead should I shoot?
you cant go wrong with the 100 grain they r the most common and easy to find
|
RE: What grain broadhead should I shoot?
Its not based on what is most common or easiest to find. You have to match your arrow and your bow. Most of the time you can get by with adjusting your bow weight or point weight to correct a weak/stiff spine.
If your arrow is too weak...decrease poundage or point weight or get a stiffer arrow. If too stiff, increase poundage or point weight or get a weaker arrow. It really just depends. Tomorrow when I get home I'll run your setup through On Target 2, a program that can firgure all this out the easy way. |
RE: What grain broadhead should I shoot?
If shooting Muzzy's I'd go with either 90gr 4-blades or the 100gr 3-blades. I have shot both of these for the 12 years I've been bowhunting and have never been let down. I've also experienced great flight with both grains, but every situation and bow is different.

RE: What grain broadhead should I shoot?
Does anyone else shoot this particular arrow???
|
RE: What grain broadhead should I shoot?
The 400's might be a little under spined for 64lb which is why you are not getting good flight.
|
RE: What grain broadhead should I shoot?
I shoot the 400 Axis with the following specs:
28.5 inch arrow 29 inch draw 63 lbs draw weight 100 gr G5 Montecs I also shoot 125 gr Montecs, but I decrease my draw weight when doing so. |
RE: What grain broadhead should I shoot?
I use 85 grain heads only because my arrow are shorter 28 3/4 inch and I use smaller vanes. 4 inch vane will control any broadhead out there on carbon arrows. Foc is very important to me. the longer the arrow and the heaver your vanes the heaver the point. Keep your F.O.C. at around 11 % are I like a little less mine are at 9 % because they group better for me. You will get better groups at longer yardage. 40 years ago 125 or 140 were used a lot becuase of long arrows, 5 inch feathers and heaver nocks. With 400 axis I would stay with no more than 100s. F.O.C. is very important for good shooting keeps the arrow behided the point, not following the point down and hitting your target with the tail up losing energy as it bends forward

RE: What grain broadhead should I shoot?
For Broadheads keep your FOC at a minimum of 12%. 15% is even better;)

RE: What grain broadhead should I shoot?
Just ran your specs through the program. I'm showing good spine at a 60 pound draw weight and using 100 grain tips. However, your FOC is lacking, yours is 7.5%. Nothing you can really do about that. You really need to have the 340's to have that "perfect arrow."
I'm assuming you have the 60/70 pound limbs since you're at 64 pounds? Some 50/60 bows (maxed out) can be 4 or so pounds over. |
RE: What grain broadhead should I shoot?
I'm shooting a Switchback at 70 lbs with Easton axis 400s as well. My draw is around 30.5". The muzzy 3 blade 100 gr work great for me. Just ask the doe I smoked this past saturday!:D

RE: What grain broadhead should I shoot?
On Archery Advantage porgram it comes up at 10.3 %. which is good to go in my book

RE: What grain broadhead should I shoot?
The broadhead seemed straight and on spin test.I shot 2 muzzy 100 s and 2 muzzy 125s changed up arrows and everything.Shot a slick trick 100 and it flew well out of several arrows. But I havent used slick tricks and dont know what it can do to a deer.Experienced muzzys and luv em but with Beman 400 is what I shot muzzy 100 with.
