New to Bow hunting need some pointers

I am new to bow hunting just bought a miller orion bow. i have no idea on how to go about sighting my bow. and also i am having a huge problem with my string hitting my forearm despite the guard. Need serious help. Thinking about trying to make a hunt this weekend. but need some pointers first. Anything will help

If you dont know how to sight your bow in, then you dont need to consider hutning this weekend. Take it to a bow shop and have the m set you up and get you started and show you how to do everything, then practice practice practice... once you get an idea of everything you love it youll be hooked...but the best thing to do is have some hands on training at a bow shop or a patient buddy.

i concur w/buckmaster - dont risk a shot, if you havent gotten completly comfortable with your bow.

sounds like your draw length is to long and i agree you need to practice more before you go out hunting

i have practiced the last few days and i actually have a pretty close grouping from about 25 to 30 yards, about 4 to 5 inches from that distance. i am not really even using my sights as of right now. i am eyeballing everything ipersonaly think im doing pretty well for those circumstances

yeh instinctive shooting is good but wait until you get them sights set up.... your 4-5inch group at 25-30yrds will shrink to 2-3inches. If your confident in your shooting then go for it.

As far as your arm being hit.... take the arm you hold the bow with, make a fist and put it against the wall as if you were holding your bow. Without moving your wrist, twist your elbow outward, now practice doing this while holding and shooting your bow, and it will solve that problem.

i normaly pull my elbow out alittle and have only got hit twice i have not used a arm gaurd since i was 13 it hurts alittle but not to much for me and have your draw lenth checked take a tape measure and go to a wall

then stand like you wold when draqing back with your arm on the wall and measure from your hand to your chieck that should be your draw lenth

Keep practicing, Keep practicing and Keep practicing! If your groups are 4" or 5"at 25 yards, and your shooting at a target, "bullseye dot" then start practicing on a deer target, "no colored dot." Just like when your hunting.....you won't see a dot on the deer. Practice from elevation...just like in you stand. Shoot bending at the waist, its differant then on the ground. Last, if you have a solid group (no arrows out of the groups) of 4" on a deer target at 25 yards.........then when actually hunting give your self a self imposed max of 20 yards...no more!

Good Luck! Have fun!
