on the 5th of oct will be my first hunt with my bow and from a stand

This year i both are new from me

lets say i have a nice deer that is right below your stand you can see it's back head and a little side do you take the shot or wait untill you get more of a angle to get a broadside shot

I would wait. A spine shot is risky and so is a single-lung shot. It takes a long time for the deer to die with the one-lunger and they don't bleed nearly as well. The kill zone, also shrinks incredibly from a steep angle.

Wait until the angle is better.

Straight down shots are tough to make and a low percentage shot as far as killing the deer.

There are a lot of 'Rules of thumb' in this game.

A good one is.

"Don't shoot at a deer that is closerthan your stand is high".

I hunt pretty high usually 27' (the length of my pull rope) and those 5-7 yd shots are tough.

18-22 yds is my kill zone, if one makes it inside that zone, he still has to make it back out.

That very rarely happens.

Be patient, if a deer getsreal close (5yds), he almost has to give you a quartering away shot to leave.

This is usually a fatal mistake,( He is also looking away from you).

With your first hunt coming up, try and remember the difference between a rookie and a more experienced hunter is "patience".

There is no real reason to kill the first deer you see.

There is no real reason to hurry a shot.

There is no real reason to FORCE a shot.(Between tree limbs - Through a small hole in the bushes)

Before you go out think about your strengths and weaknesses.

What is your most accurate range between 15-30 yds ?

Stick to it !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

When you decide to shoot

Aim Small

Watch your arrow to the target

Remember to follow through !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wait. This is your first year, you should take the highest of percentage shots. at least 8 yds away and broadside or slightly quartering AWAY. Max distance is debatable, but I recomend to new guys no more than 25yds. Also if you can, shoot from elevation cause you will need to concentrate on keeping your form and bending at the waust. i was worryed with it being my first year in the woods my second with this bow about limbs and distance i feel comfortable at 30 not pass that it did worry me alittle

but when i set up my stand out pass between 15 and 20 itis near impossiable that the arrow would not hit a limb it is a thick area but i have nothing for at least 15 yards some places out to 20 and i know i can cut the rope at 20 yards i will pass if need be i do not plan to take any shot that wont kill the deer thats why now going into my fourth year i have no kill because either the shot was no good or the deer was to small and i was on over huntedpublic land
