Attracting deer

Where I hunt, the doe:buck ratio is ridiculously out of whack. It is so bad, that rattling or grunting is useless. This is due to the lack of competition between bucks, soI am told.

In this type of situation, what other methods have you found useful in attracting bucks?

I feed them, and that patterns that always bring deer in.

in that situation you really need to locate the does whether it be a food source or bedding area. the bucks will be with the does.unbalanced population makes it tough.

Not sure if it's possible but for a couple of years you may have to just concentrate on getting ride of the does. We started doing this on our lease land 3 years ago and although we've passed on bucks it's paying off now with a closer 1:1 ratio. This will be our last year on doe's only I think and then we will be in good shape. Maybe you can plant some food plots that usually helps to pattern as well.

Food plots are out, as I am hunring on county (public) parks.
When the balance is sooo far out of whack, would scents during rut even work?

scents would help, but definetely won't work as well as they would if the pop. was balanced. if you're hunting co. land there's really nothing that you can do about it on your own. talk to your local DNR and address the issue. but like i said before i would stick to the natural food sources where the does will be.
