Ever had a squirrel jump on ya??
 

I have never had one actually jump on me but i have had some close ones! I had a grey squirrel a footabove my head in my treestand tonight, so I gotthinkin wonder how many of you guys have ever had one jump onyou oryour treestand? What kinda reaction did you or the squirrel have?

I seen the squirrel coming down the tree today but if I didnt im sure it would have flipped me out!! Haha sorry for the stupid question, just figured someone has something funny to share!!

I had one sit on my platform with me my heart was poundin, idk why just a rush of wow im really doing this cammo deal well, I was in the Y of a tree on a piece of 4x4 and plywood haha so there was plenty of room for the two of us, he ate his nut and then went up the tree last i saw of him after that.

I only had squirrel jump on me once. It was when I was a teenager and hunted on the ground. I was standing next to a tree, the squirrel came around the tree and grabbed my leg by mistake. I jumped, it jumped...lol I laughed afterwards...

And for GregH, I was wearing military Army camo bdu pants and a Trebark shirt. :)

Ive had them come down the tree right next to my face maybe 6inches to a foot away, I just pray the whole time that clusters doesnt jump on my face. I did have one brush the back of my neck when I was sitting against a log one time, little to close for me. I much prefer to keep them at least at arm length, helps keep the butt from puckering too much.;)

Had one come down my tree one time crawled onto the platform and then decided to sit on my foot for about 5 minutes. I couldn't take it anymore because was worried he was gonna crawl up my bibs so I kicked my foot and he landed on the ground about 10 foot from the base of my tree. That little bugger got so mad he came back up the tree next to me and jumped back into the tree with me and crawled down to about 2 feet above my head and barked at me for 10 minutes. I tried to whack him with my arrow and he decided that was enough for him and went off a couple trees and sat there and barked at me forever at least it seemed like it.

i had one climb right up past my shoulder. i also had a raccoon start climbing my tree. i had to make some movement to get him to climb down.

Though out all the years of hunting , I've always had at least one animal walk , sit , land or crawled on me while I was in stand or blind.
I figured it was God's way to keep me awake and alert , I also thought it was his way to keep me company and not lonely.

last year i had a red hawk that would hunt mostly every evening with me. he kept the chipmunks in check:D his flight path was right by the tree i hunted from. one night his wing tips about hit me in the face. awesome birds...

last year i was doing i Wood Duck project for ecology class..or maybe wildlife management class. but the landowner i was working with had some boxes hung and needed cleaned and rehung in better locations. we load up his Gator 4x4 with a ladder and that kinda stuff and head out to the boxes. im up on a 10ft ladder...its THE WORST ladder ive ever been on. flimsy as heck...i think it was a homeade job. i really wished i wore my saftey harness:eek: but im reaching to untie the cable he tied the box up with....box starts makin noise...a grey squirrel EXPLODES out in my face. tail smacks me in the face and it scurries up the tree. somehow i manage NOT to fall out of the tree. im screaming like a girl. didnt even realize what happened at first. ok..there cant be more than 1 squrriel in there. go back to business and number 2 jumps out...i scream again. land owner is on the ground DYING. hes an old timer...funnier than heck...he found that plain out histerical.

amazing how much leaves they had packed into that thing. it was pack TIGHT. i dont know how 2 of them fit in there....bottom was full of acorns...it was amazing how much leaves were in that thing

the rest of the boxes were full of hornet or wasp nests...good thing it was the dead of winter:eek:

I've never had a squirrl jump on me, but I have shared a ground blind withone of them noisy buggers. He wasn't very happy when I showed up that morning. Sat there barking at me for like 10 mins before his ADD kicked in and he forgot what he was doing.

Never a squirrel, but I had a grass snake slide on my neck and then down my side. I don't know who was more scared, me or him, the only reason I stayed in the stand was because he bailed before I did. I was certainly on my way. I'd never had a snake on my neck before, but somehow I knew instantly it was a snake.

I laughed at myself after I saw it was a greenie.

I had one a few years back that came flying down the tree and came to a screaching halt about 6 inches from my head. When I looked up, we were nose to nose. He went in to cardiac arrest and I'm pretty sure I did too. It startles you seeing a critter that close. Last year I had a little brown bat one night that kept flying circles around me and about every third lap he'd come busting in right at me. Not cool.

My initiation into hunting was "stump sitting". That was how hunting deer was taught to me. One frosty morning I saw a squirrel running up the fence line I was sitting on. I didn't move and sure enough he jumped up on my lower leg and stopped. He must have known that something wasn't right because he just stopped. When he figured it out he didn't stick around long to see if there were any handouts! That didn't freak me as much as the Owl that buzzed my face at about 10 feet before it flared off while I was sitting in my treestand though!

I have a buddy that was sitting in his climber at about 12' and was eating some cheese cr@ckers (um, I had to use the @ symbol because the word is blocked [8D]). Like a moron, he dropped the wrapper and just left it because he could see it and was gonna pick it up when he got down. About 1/2 hr later he seen a black bear coming through the woods, sort of normal for FL and the black bear came to his stand, stuck his nose in the wrapper then decided to head up the tree. The bear got to almost the bottom of his stand when he finally decided that was close enough and screamed...hey, get outta here. That bear looked up, then down that tree and hauled butt out of the area.

That made for a funny lunch that day.

Never had a squirrel jump on me but I do got a good fishing story. Me and my stepdad were fishing in this pond in Maryland. It was a awesome pond that had wildlife all around. Well were fishing and there's this box I guess it was for ducks. I say I wonder if anything is in that box.My stepdad says there ain't nothing in there.Well my stepdad gets on the very front of the boat opens up the box and this woodduck comes flying out in his face he just about falls out of the boat and I'm in the back laughing my ass off. I'll never forget it as long as I live.You had to be there to get the hole effect it was priceless.

never had a problem with squirrels, but i did get attacked by an owl last year........still gives me chills to think about it......

never had one actually in my lap. but last year a fox squirrel couldnt quite figure out what i was so he climbed the tree infront of me and shimmeyed out onto a branch that was a little longer than arms length away. and he just sat there for about 2min. bobbing his head up and down back and forth trying to figure out what i was and work up the courage to jump. it was so funny watching that squirrel that i started chuckling like freakin santa clause whichscared the crap out ofthe squirrel and he vamoosed barking the whole way through the woods!:D

I've had chipmunks jump on my boot and squirrels come close in a tree. I've had a hawk think I was something else and came after me until I waved and yelled. I've had a bird land on my knocked arrow.

I'll make a long story short... The closest I've ever got to an animal (while hunting) was when I was 12. I was turkey hunting the early morning, sitting on the edge of a field. This gobbler was gobblin and struttin away, and wouldnt come down to me. I was calling like crazy and he just wouldn't budge. There were a couple branches that the turkey walked behind and blocked my view of him. So I crawled on the edge of the field and stuck my head out to see if I could spot him. I heard a "putt," turned my head and there stood 3 jakes no more than 5-6 feet away. That's one of the many times my heart has skipped a beat. :D I took my arm and started feeling around for my gun, and they knew somethin was up. 2 of em trotted off, and one them flew off across the field. I'm guessing the gobbler caught wind of the situation... I never saw him again.

i have had them really close but the coolest thing was one time i seen one miss the brach he jumped 4 and fell about 30 feet to the ground,he hit the ground and didnt move i couldnt beleive what i saw,he laid motionless for about 20 mins than got up and ran away

Never had one jump on me...but I had one come across the same branch that ran about 5 inches away from the platform of my stand ever night I was out there. The first time he came up the branch...I just sat motionless and he kinda stpped like..what the hell is that big lump?? Then he scurried across it. After the first time he just came along like nothing was different.

Kicked a porcupine once when getting outta my stand in MI, had a grey fox climb the next tree and climb out a limb 10' in front of me, had a doe kick my shoe in PA, had an owl land on the limb beside my head, birds so close you could see them blink/ see them breath/ almost see their heatbeat, squirrel run over my leg, raccoon smell my boot.... you can't get those memories sitting in the recliner. Almost forgot the red fox (2) in PA that came within spitting distance. 3 weeks ago had a bear directly below me at 8 ft in Alberta. Life is good.....

thats why i keep a little semi pellet gun in my treestand bag, just incase those bastards come lurking at me.

You know how it is when your in a tree from sunrise to about 10oclock and you aint seen or heard anything and all you do is keep looking left and right and hearing those dame squerills running in the leaves. Well........... yeah
