bears in the glades ?

Anyone here can tell me if there are any type of bear living in the everglades ???
I saw an episode of CSI Miami and it showed a hunter who was covered in vanilla gel being attacked and killed by what looked like a well trained grizzly......
really "life" like if you ask me.....

Not likely , very rare around here , occala national forest is full of them , from there north they are sparce . We have no bear season in Florida , occala has the largest population , about 250 miles north of Miami

Grizzlies...now that would be interesting! A croc and grizzly fight I would pay. Besides...who gets lathered up with vanilla jelly...outside the bedroom!?!?

I'm sure there are a few black bear floating around in the glades. I have heard of them being hit by vehicles going across Alligator Alley (I75 - main highway that crosses through glades). I even ran across a track and bear feces when hunting in central florida. I'm sure they are pretty small but there have to be a few running around down there.

There are black bears all over Florida especially from Lake Okeechobee north. The populations are very dense from Orlando north to Georgia and west into the panhandle. Anything written that suggests less is pure political propaganda. We kill over 100 bears by vehicles alone in central Florida each year and you can't put out a game camera from May thru August and not get bear pics. Also, the bears tend to be larger in Florida than elsewhere because bears don't hibernate and eat all year long.

Yes there are black bears in the glades. My experiences with Black bears in North Florida are that they are shy creatures and won't attack unless provoked, even then they usually run. Also most of the ones I have seen are around 150-250 lbs., way smaller than their northern cousins.

I have hunted in the Everglades up till moving north a few years ago. We have a camp in Big Cypres National Preserve. There are in fact a healthy population of black bears in the everglades. They are as far south as Everglades National Park. There are enough bears in the glades that we take special precautions to "bear proof" our camps during the off season! So Yes there are Black bears in the Glades!

well, this was def. a big brown one and he was angry, well at least they wanted him to be......I mean, a cityslicker/hunter covered in vanillagel being mangled by a bear....wouldn't the bear lick him clean or what....

I bet a lot of folks who saw the episode will be very careful when they go to the glades...they might even forget the alligators as they will be on the lookout for big mean bears.....
