New treestand idea.

I've come up with a really good idea to greatly improve treestands.

I'm wondering what steps im going to need to take to bring this to life.

Thanks in advance,

Brian

well the first thing you need to do is a patent search, if there isn't one then you will need to fill out the proper paper work and get a patent lawyer and file you idea, then once you have that,You can either market or sell your idea be sure to have built a proto type and blue prints then in a nut shell you are good to go. there are a few more steps lots to list thats just the basics.

goto this web site it will give you more info http://www.uspto.gov/

Hope this helps good luck

Just a heads up. They're are people devoid of idea's, save one. Frequent forums and steal others.
Keep it to yourself. I think you need a patent lawyer. Always detered me.

PM me if you want.Been through the patent process many times. I would keep it to yourself and your patent lawer if its that good of an idea at least until you have a patent pending on it.Do a patent search yourself initially before you spend any money. If you dont see any patent that your idea will possibly infringe on in any way, then hire a patent attorney and be prepared to spend lots of money unfortunately.Good luck, hope you become filthy rich and take all of HNI Bowhunting members on a nice field trip some where!! Maybe elk hunting, possibly caribou, lol.

I'm going to be contacting different companies first to see if they would be interested in hearing my idea.

Will emailing them be sufficient? Or is there possibly a faster way?

Brian, What's to keep them from hearing it and then incorporating the idea..while cutting you out. You need protection. I'd follow Diesels advice!

Well, It turns out I wasn't the only one to think of this.

Dude DO NOT, I repeat, DO NOT call any company until you have a patent and a prototype. Dont do it man. I have a few ideas of my own and I am in the same boat as you. I have connections in the hunting industry and I havent even told them that I have a good idea yet because I dont have it patented.

Sorry should have read the whole thread. I had the same thing happen to me already.....twice to be exact. I had a good idea and low and behold it was already marketed, I just never heard of it before.
