I screwed up.
I bought my first NY Resident hunting license since 1964. $68 dollars was a lot less than the $250 I've been paying as a non resident. So I get the regs and I'm reading. I could have had a free dang license. If you're more than 40 percent permanently disabled because of military service you get a freebie. Dang, I'm 50% and they're fixing to raise that because of my exposure to Agent Orange and elevated sugar count. Now that really does suck. I'm sure there's no provision for redo or give back. Well, all I have to do is live another year and I get a freebie.:):D

RE: I screwed up.
Agree with MOTOWN and BigJ. As much as it seems there are a lot of screwed up people in our country, there are quite a lot of us who really appreciate ALL of our current and past servicemen and women. Thanks, David. You old fart.:)

David...from one NYer to another...at least it's going to a good cause! I hate giving this state any more money than they already get! I pay the $76.00 because I like to read the Conservationist magazine.

RE: I screwed up.
NYBowhunter.... that's another thing I found after I had bought and came home and read the book 2 days later. I would have paid the extra 8 bucks to get the magazine. Theguy didn't tell me about it. New York has some strange little quirky rules. For example my taxes.I went in to file for my Star and VA disability exemption/discounts as soon as I got here. They told me I was too late. Said I had to file with the school taxes before Nov 1 or something like that and county/town discounts by March 1. I got here May 1. Then I get a tax bill. It states a value as of June 2006 used to compute. Well hell, it was a vacant lot I didn't own at that time. I didn't get an occupancy permit until July.I went to see them and they stated it was based on the building plans you submitted in Oct 2006 and the state of construction as of March 1, 2007. So, they won't give me the disability tax cut or the STAR cut this year because I got here too late but they're charging me taxes for the full value of a house under construction. When I got the tax bill it stated I missed the appeal date. This is the first notice I got. Isn't that a hoot.
The guy was nice enough. He took my papers for next years star and VA disability and I'll get the break next year. Again, all I have to do is live another year and I'll get 25% off school taxes and 50% off town and country taxes. I can't really complain as I'm in one of the lowest taxtownships going. I could live where NYbowhunter does and pay a bundle.[&:] So if I just hang around a while longer I'll get a free license and cheaper taxes. Heck, and like Rickmur says, I can afford it.... I still own two house.$%^%^#@^%#^%$#&[:@][:@][:@] |
RE: I screwed up.
You know what they say......When all else fails, read the instructions.....[&:]:D:D
J/K of course.....That is a bummer......I think all states should do this in some form, you've certainly earned it IMO..... |
RE: I screwed up.
Thanks for your service and I also feel that all veterans should be exempt.
Look at it this way,you made a DONATION to the fish & wildlife. Atleast here in Ky,EVERY dime of license and tags stays in the fish & wildlife.(atleast it used to be that way and I am fairly sure it is still that way) |
RE: I screwed up.
You sure your not in NJ instead of NY. Wow, seems like the further north you go the more they are in your pockets.
|
RE: I screwed up.
I don't know about a refund, But all you have to do to get your free liscense is get a letter from the VA (annually) stating your level of disability.
A few years ago the gov't finally acknowledged that Agent Orange causes Diabetes (30 yrs after the fact) and is compensating for it. |
