My First Archery Buck of the Season!
Our deer season doesn't open until October, so for the past week, I've been on a DIY antelope bowhunt in South Dakota. It's my first archery antelope. Had a blast, and even took a few extra days for vacationing in the black hills. I'll post a full report along with some video here within the next week or so, in the HNI field journals.

RE: My First Archery Buck of the Season!
Nice Loper Joey. Congrats man.
U gonna try to mount him yourself? I know you've dabbled with that stuff in the past... I know they're weird, b/c the horns slip right off of the bony stems, like a knife and a sheath... I guess the cut up the back of the skull, and horn removal would be different... (thinking out loud). They really do make beautiful mounts. Something about the coloration - just really nice. Judging by the black shirt, I'm guessing a ground blind kill? |

Nice!My bro in law is heading out to wyoming for an antelope hunt soon,he's a rifle hunter but I just set him up with a bow about two weeks ago and his first time ever shooting it he was shooting 5"groups at 20yds!!!I could'nt beleive it!Oh by the way he is a firearms instructor in the lower peninsula and retired police cheif of kalkaska. So he might give the bow a try.

RE: My First Archery Buck of the Season!
nice bro!!!
where is a link to buy a hat like that? |
RE: My First Archery Buck of the Season!
Thanks Guys.
Quiksilver - I've mounted3-4 antelope in the past, and they're actually easier than a whitetail (IMO). The skin is mostly back, and the thick hair is easy to hide any problems. Yep, it was a ground blind harvest. I tried spot and stalking the first couple days, but couldn't get any closer than 80-100 yards, after stalking for an hour on my belly... Pa Yote Hunter - They were available on the HNI online store. I just checked and they're not on there currently (that I can see). Maybe they ran low on stock. I love the hat though. |

|
RE: My First Archery Buck of the Season!
I was hunting is South Dakota. But those hills in the far background, those are in Montana. It's a ways out there, in the boondocks.
|
RE: My First Archery Buck of the Season!
VERY NICE!!!!! i've always loved those... one of these days i'll make it out there to go after some speed goats... gonna have to drop my first bow taken whitey though... i'm gonna go for different ones each year as I get them... whitey, mule, pronger, elk, bear, moose... I won't move on to the next one until i've filled each before it... maybe i can get that list taken care of before I die...
