Who Films?

Who films there own hunts.

It's something I want to do this year just for self satisfaction.

Also what camera arm is better..the Pine Ridge or the Gorilla or other??

I tried last year, but it's tough! This year I'll be having a cameraman with me more often, which hopefully will make it a little easier to get some good footage.

As for the arm questions, I only used the Lone Wolf and Pine Ridge arms last year and liked both of them. The Pine Ridge arm seemed a little more stable and secure to the tree with my bigger GL2 camera. The Lone Wolf seemed alright with a small consumer hand-held type camera. Although either one worked fine for self-filming with either.

This year we picked up a set of wireless microphones, a new shotgun mic, and a set of headphones for the cameraman to use when filming. Our camera looks like a freakin' octopus! Hopefully it pays off with some good footage though.

Good luck with the self-filming! One thing I wish I would've done is carried the camera's remote control with me for turning it on/off and start/stop recording. I got busted a few times trying to move to get my camera in position, turn it on, and try to get ready for a shot. And always carry extra tapes and extra batteries. You'll thank me later! :D

Gr8 I have tried in the past. I have a lot of film of smaller bucks and does but none that I shot. I always forget when I see a shooter.

I use the gorilla arm and it works fine. Make sure you lube it up though.

I do with a camera man but have never filmed my own shots alone...when I'm shooting, I'm shooting the hell with everything else.;) Last year I did film my buck before I shot him. I filmed him when he was 200 yards down the field as I was calling to him. He thrashed a bush and walked in strutting, I put the camera down and gave it to him.:D

I never like the thoughts of the camera mount bow brackets and the tree ones usually don't work out, too much to do.

Find a buddy Bob.

I filmed my entire Antelope hunt in August. My cousin Trouthunter was gracious enough totag along with the camera. I'd like to with whitetails, I'd like to do it alone as well. with the bowmounted camera platform.

Does anyone use the Canon GL2 by chance and have a bowmounted bracket for it??? I'd like to hear feedback on that..

I'm not trying to make anything worthy of selling. It's just that when I get home and tell the tales of the day it would be cool if I could show some of the adventure. It's not so much to film me taking a buck, it's more the other things that go on. The coyote, the owl in the next tree, the little bucks I pass on..whatever.

Well I just ordered the Pine Ridge. Great folks, running a good deal now. They are throwing in the camo cover free with purchase for a limited time.

It also has a bow holder..so instead of paying for one of those 10-20$ you can have a camera holder too.

I'm going to open myself up for a bit of criticism here. First off a correction for all of you........you are not 'filming' ........you are taping, or videoing, or capturing on tape.....
A 100% total misuse of the terminology for the technology.
And now another lesson. A front of bow camera mount will work and your video will look like a car wreck at impact.
And again another pointer for some research for you: www.bownear.com
This is the best camera\bow mount combo I"ve seen on the market for the price for the hunter who wishes to VIDEO his own hunts.
Gone, gone.

You're right, Brian and Jim are great guys. We're going up against them at the Campbell Outdoor Challenge next month. Should be a good time!

And Troy - I've never heard of a bow mount for a GL2. That camera's a little big and bulky to be attaching it to your bow, don't you think?
