RE: Good poll question
I presume they mean from sitting in a stand? If so I would have to evaluate the situation, If I can see the deer, I KNOW FOR A FACT that it would see me trying to get up or down a tree, I an convinced that deer for the most part are more alarmed by movement than by anything else. I have had deer right under my stand looking up at me in Camo and stomp and try to figure me out,but did not spook. I have also had deer 75 yards away while I was in Camo and saw me stand up and spooked right away.In conclusion ,I would let it pass.Maybe come back the next day and HOLD on to my bow.

Where I hunt you could as they say, "Foregetta aboutitt"!
If you drop your bow you won't have to wait for anything, whether they were looking at you or not...they would be gone....seeya bye...good night...adios...Oruvwa...Aveeterzain! |
RE: Good poll question
Drop one out of a stand and you may as well watch the flag as far as you can cause they aint gona wait to see where you are. They are gone bye bye!!!!!

RE: Good poll question
If I was in my stand I would get down immediately to see what kind of damage was done to my bow.:)
|
RE: Good poll question
I would enter stealth mode. Down down and first check the bow, and put an arrow in and shoot it. But that's only if it is all possible.

RE: Good poll question
I would retrieve it from my treestand using my rope from which I pull the bow up in the first place. I have snaps at both ends of my rope and I make sure to have some type of hook with me because I've been there/done that....not my bow but calls, clothes etc..and I hook them and pull them up...
Makes for a great tip. Good Luck and Good Shooting Rob |

RE: Good poll question
Chuckle a little, then chaulk up another one to Murphy's Law. Climb down, gather up my gear and head for the house so I can check everything ouy on my bow before I shoot it again.
KEEP IT LEGAL. KEEP IT SAFE. OR WE MAY NOT GET TO KEEP IT AT ALL. |
RE: Good poll question
If the deer didn't already spook at the movement and noise from the bow falling, I would freeze and wait for it to pass and then quietly climb down and retrive my bow and then would try to coax it back my way with a method appropriate for the existing conditions.

RE: Good poll question
Jump down on top of the deer with my buck knife?
"Hey ya'll, watch this" |
RE: Good poll question
In previous years I wooda leaned over and picked it up cuz I was in a ground blind but I lost my lease, now I'm on public land so I'm in a treestand. If I dropped my bow to the ground I'd havta kick myself for not using my bowstrap. It attaches to my wrist on one end and the bow on the other.
FOOLPROOF? Never underestimate the power of a fool! What if the "Hokey Pokey" really is what it's all about? |
RE: Good poll question
Wait until the deer passed. Get my bow and go shoot it to check out the sights.
|
RE: Good poll question
Take my gutting knife and slit my throat. Then hang myself with my safety strap. If that didn't work I use the same knife to cut the safety strap. If after falling to the ground, landing on the knife... I'm not to weak from blood loss... I'd gather my junk and go home.

RE: Good poll question
I would climb down and spend the next half hour kicking myself in the ass for dropping it, then finding out what damage was done to the bow. Also you have to go and check to see what may have happened to the sights.
Sorry about the bad luck!! See you at the bloody arrow... |
RE: Good poll question
I would definately not try to shoot at the deer. I guarantee that the bow will not shoot in the same spot as before, just too big of a chance of wounding a deer.
