How many deer mounts would you like to have?
 

Not saying it just because I got my first mount back, today. I've been thinking about this for a while. I told my wife, today.....I have one more buck I want to have mounted.....and I might not ever kill another one (it's possible).

That might sound funny.....but it's the truth. It'll just have to be a special buck for me to take him.

I'm headed to KS, next year to hunt. If I take one, there......again....it'll have to be something special. WY in '09 is a bit diferent.....and I DO want to take a Pronghorn to have mounted.

Caveat to the above is.....I want to hunt in '08 with my longbow.....OR....unless I don't kill the buck I'm after, this year. I'll hunt him as long as I know he's alive.

I just don't see me killing bucks and not having them mounted......and I just don't see me taxi-ing a lot of deer.

Anyone else ever found themselves in this position? Did you change? I love deer hunting more now than I ever have. I just don't see me killing a buck every year. I don't have a desire to do it just to say I killed one.

can you really have too many? i usually like to take only bigger bucks each year but it is nice to sit in my recliner and relive the hunts everyday

I can appreciate the fact that it doesn't necessarily have to be bigger. I need to remember that. The "journey" is sometimes greater than (or a big part of) the destination. A good story behind a specific hunt could warrant me taking a buck, I guess. Great point.

As you know Jeff and will soon see, I have a house "for mounts"..lol I'm sure I can have "too many" but that hasn't happened yet. I have alot of walls that can hold an animal. With the strutting gobbler I have to pick up, plus the KS longbeard I took with my bow, my taxi is starting last years buck I currently will have 10. If I take the buck I want this year, that will be number 11....I want one more gobbler mount, a standing upright, I'll mount my pronghorn if I'm fortunate enough to take one so that's 13....I'll probably mount all whitetails bigger than the last or any that just mean that much because of the hunt (might be smaller than the last). I want to mount a doe, a special doe (pretty) so that's another mount. After the pronghorn hunt I want to go moose, caribou, mule deer etc hunting, if I'm fortunate to tag out, more mounts.:D

With my house I don't know how many is too many but I'm not there yet....and my man cave isn't done so I'll need some to fill it as well. ;)

man..I'm gettin all my bucks this year mounted..because I haven't killed a buck and it'ld be cool to look at them all on the wall and just remember that year! and every nice buck after that. If its a awesome hunt with a small deer I'm going to get it mounted.

This might be crazy but If I kill a button buck thinking its a doe its going on the wall....Buck is a Buck right?? lol

ive killed 10 deer. 2 were bucks. neither got mounted.

figuring my first bow killed buck will be bigger than both, and my first bowkill...so im probably planning to get it mounted. after that, it'll hafta be a biggun, lots of character, or something special. but theres a place on my wall for all their antlers. unlike you, i do want to kill a buck every year. but dont have plans to have them ALL mounted...

The bucks were I hunt get a free pass unless they are going to go on my wall. Right now for me it will have to be a 3 1/2 yr old buck or older. I know I won't get one every year but I feel that if he meets my criteria for harvest then he deserves a place on my wall to be honored and remembered.

Don't get me wrong, fellas.....I'm not saying I'm done....lol.

I have my '07 turkey that I should get back any day now. I want to get another turkey done......maybe 2 more. If I can take 2 more with my bow......I want a flying mount and a full strut bird, yet.

Like I said.....the '09 Pronghorn (if I can take one) will be a pedestal mount.

Rob....I, too, wanta doe mount. I may wait until I take the first one witt my longbow to do this, though. It just seems appropriate.

But.....I don't see too many more whitetail buck mounts in my future. Maybe I'll surprise myself.......but it's the way I feel, right now.

The animals I want mounted would take up a lot of space...Deer, Elk, Pronghorn, Turkey, Fish, Ducks/Geese, Coyote w/pheasant.

i just have to start killing some that are worthy ;)

Kinda like what Rob said. I won't shoot a buck if I am not going to mount him. But I mount my own so it isn't that big of an expense. I don't plan to stop shooting them any time soon. I still have some room on my walls.

I can get 3 per year, 2 in MO and 1 in IL. I am going to try my best to fill all of those tags with bucks good enough to mount. But I get kinda picky once I have the first one on the ground.

I have 26 mounts so far . That is what I am hunting for ,I can't bring myself to kill something that will not go in the game room. Call me lucky, call me good, just don't bother trying to call me in hunting season.

I've mounted 2 of my bucks in 20-something years. That's adequate for my whitetail mounts. I also have a javelina mount. Again, adequate. I would like one mount of various other big and small game animals as I have opportunityto hunt and mount them. I donot want a gaudy trophy wall littered with heads. (Nor does my wife...tacky.) I justlike a simple mount here and there to look nice andgive my house (and especially my bow room) a cabin flavor,which represents a variety of wildlife and hunting adventures.

I'm more than excited about the prospect of killing any whitetail this season, buck or doe, but I just have no desire or intention of mounting any more.

I hear ya, AK.......but I don't wanna kill another buck (barring extenuating circumstances like an injury) and NOT have it mounted. "I" don't see the point....and I can kill 2 a year, here.

Maybe I'll change my mind. Who knows?

anything over 150 is a mount to me and as it stands right now I have ZERO but things are going to change :)in 07!

I will only shoot a buck that I plan on having mounted. I have hunted for 16 years and have 5 mounts. Something has to catch my eye before i'll take a buck. He has to be really big or be decent with some cool character.

Im still young so Im not too picky. My first bowkill lastyear was a 100" buck. I just did a skull mount. I dont plan on shooting anything smaller with my bow. But last year I shot a little 1.5yo 8 pointer during early gun season in the CWD zone. Im almost positive if I didn't, someone else would have shot it. (but grandpa did shoot a really nice buck during gun season) Plus It had a big, infected (graze?) wound on the side. I guess it depends where and how im hunting, and how much meat is in the freezer.

In the area that I liveanything over 100 inches is a mountable buck. I have 2 mounts a "left" facing mount(10 pt)that grossscores around 118-120 and a "right" facing mount(8 pt)that net scores 125 2/8. I only desire one more mount -a "straight" facing one. Being that it is so hard to kill a decent buck in southern NY I am going up to manitoba this yearto try my luck in getting one. These 3 bucks would then complete my "trophy" room.

I kinda take it as they come. I've mounted most of the bigger bucks I killed but some I haven't. One of the biggest bucks I ever killed with a bow (in college) I never mounted.I have some smaller mounts but the story behind the hunt was special. It all depends on the circumstances regarding the hunt for me to have the animalmounted or not.

Well, I have two on the wall now, and, at $400 a pop, that will probably be my limit until I finish graduate school. Hey,they look great, but if times get tough, I can't eat'em.(The mounts of course.)

And the ol' ladywill have veto power...again.

I'll build more rooms or buy another house. I hope I have a taxidermy bill every season, but at the moment its going to take something 140+ to make it on the wall, or its going to have to be really character laiden. I'll still shoot something that doesn't get a shoulder mount, but it will still get a skull mount regardless.
Besides whitetails, I'd like an elk, pronghorn, bear, & mt. Lion. And maybe a mule deer.

Every mount for me provides memories of a lifetime.
I dont have a journal but each deer mount or Picture I have
is all I need.

I don't look at the "inches" as a reason to get buck mounted.If it's a particularly memorable hunt,or a certain situation that Itagged a deer--that would be the deciding factor whether it get's mounted or not

If I deem it mountable it will get mounted.I have 5 deer mounts currently and a black bear rug.If the experience of the hunt or the size of the animal move me to mount an animal it will be mounted.If I have to hang them in relatives or friends homes thats what I will do.Fortunately I have quite a bit of wall space,in my part of the house.:D

I currently have 6 bucks on the wall and a 7th at the taxi

they range from a spike (first deer ever) to a large 9 point

You could look at european mounts or plaques for the horns

I have a few that way as well, If I mount another it will be larger and or have character - meaning 0ne of the 7 above is a 4 point that his horns cross in the front to form an X and he was take in 60 mile an hour winds with my bow - so I guess it all depends on the circumstances for me
