Default Wisconsin Early Season Archery

I am heading out to hunt near Madison, WI with Wisconsin Outdoor Adventures the week of Sept 22. I am from PA and have never hunted this early in the season. Any good advice on tactics for this area and this time of year.

I hunted with them last year the week of Nov 4 and it was covered up in bucks. Us guys from PA aren't used to seeing action quite like that. I shot this one last year. Any suggestions on early season tactics would be appreciated.

Thanks baldntatted. I saw 4 more that were bigger than this guy during the week, but just out of range. I took him on the last day and couldn't have been happier. My biggest buck to date. Again, anyone with any advice on early season tactics in WI would be greatly appreciated.

In early season I hunt the same way I do in every state in the midwest........Food.I have had action near water (that should really be good this year).

zmann is right...being from N Wi.. I have hunted the last 4 years starting on Sept 15. The trick is like in many places...get between the bedding and the feeding areas..scouting is a must to determine the best locations to set up your stands...deer are pretty regular this time of year and repeat their daily routines, well, daily. Again...get between the food and the beds and you should see plenty of opportunity...

Good Hunting everyone

We have had a summers worth of rain in the past 2 weeks, make sure you bring a bug suit or a repellent of some sort! The mosquitos are BAD! I have been out Coyote hunting as of late and the little buggers are vicious!!!!

Thanks guys! Good stuff. Are the bucks still running in bachelor groups this time of year. Also, do any of you guys use thermacells while whitetail hunting. I have used them on bear hunts in Canada, but never when whitetail hunting. I know they say they are scent free, but I can smell them, I know that deer can too. Since the bugs are bad I am going to bring it along.

Thermacells Rock!!! But bring extra pads and butane canisters you'd hate to run out!
