Vanilla as a cover scent...
 

I've been reading a lot lately about how well vanilla works as a cover scent, so I thought I would give it a try. I stopped by good old wally world today and picked up 4 bottles (8oz) of vanilla and 2 large spray bottles (32oz) to bring out with me.

My question is what concentration should I use for the vanilla in the spray bottle? I read one post a while back where the guy put a bottle of vanilla in the spray bottle and filled the rest of the bottle up with water. I was just concerned that if I put one bottle of the 8oz vanilla in the spray bottle and filled the remainder up with water that it would dilute the vanilla too much and it would be ineffective. I also read somewhere where the guy just used the vanilla straight and didn't add any water whatsoever.

If I could get some advice on what the concentration level guys use, I would really appreciate it. We're heading up to the land this weekend and I wanted to give it a go. Thanks![/align]__________________[/align]

I don't use VANILLA. Don't have any of it growing in my woods.:)

does everyone agree with the 50/50 base they recommend to use here?

I've used it, but all I did was make me want vanilla cookies while I was sitting in the stand.:D:D.. I can't really say if it works or not, I didn'tsee any changes when using it.

I can say one thing, it smells good. I spilled awhole bottle in myback of mytruck last year, took months to get rid of the smell.

You cant cover your scent period. How do you think one deer can smell another that has walked across a cow pasture or corn field.
The smell of corn, dirt, cow pies etc. is must stonger than the spot where a deer stepped hours earlier but the deer can still track another with easy. Each scent has it's own molecular make up that deer can pick out with ease. This is why drug dogs can pick out the scent of drugs even when it's mixed with other things or how they can smell a body in huge pile of rubble. Each scent has it's on finger print so to speak...

If anything the vanilla can be used as a curiosity scent but thats all.

I remember a product that was on the market years ago called cover-up.It was not used as a cover scent,but as an attractant scent.Some people used to swear by it,although I never did try it.Guess what it smelled like? Yep vanilla.

i read in one of my bow hunting mags, that using new car scent works just as good as estrus or even better.

I found out a few nights ago that DEET is a really good way into keeping the deer at a safe distance, so if any of you have deer that are coming dangerously close to you, I have some stuff you can lend that'll keep them away.........
