Wal-Mart sells an ameristep stand for $49.
Or they sell a Rivers Edge stand even cheaper!
The cost of these inexpensive stands is probably less than what you would spend for materials to make a safe "Homemade" version;)

I've built two aluminum climbers before. I wouldn't recommend it because the cost of aluminum and time is almost the same as buying one. Ihad one stand stolen.

When it comes to tree stands, I don't skimp or try to cut corners! If something goes wrong the end result will not be good! The same goes with a Safety Harness, I owe it to my Family to be safe!:)

Agree. Safety is the #1. The stands that I've built is more sturdy than most in the market and weighs 20# or less. That's why I got one stolen.
