If this is your first Elk hunt I am hoping that you have a guide or an outfitter lined up to help you. They should have a list of gear and clothing that you will need. The biggest thing out west is to make sure you are in shape before you go. I have seen it a million times. Guys book western hunts and go out there out of shape and can't enjoy the hunt because they have cramps all night long. Get in shape now and it will make the trip that much more enjoyable.

Thanks for the info... We are heading to a place called Hell's Kitchen. sounds like a good place to find Ol' Freak Nasty

Congratulations qqwash21 on your upcoming Elk Hunt. Do a search on this subject and you will find some real good suggestions on what to pack. Greg/Mo had one a couple of weeks ago that was excellent. Just for starters make sure you have a GPS, compass, first aid supplies, water, and someting to start a fire with.

You might go back in the archives and find a thread posted by Greg/MO on his trip to Colorado. Lots of good advice on there. I'm assuming you will hunting in the mountains at high elevation? You will likely experience a headache the first day or two, as your body tries desperately to build red blood cells. You need to drink about twice as much water as you are used to; and be prepared for very rapidly changing weather conditions by dressing in layers.
