RE: 2007 Rut predictions

id agree with that...for the chasing phase....i believe that falls into the end of pre-rut though. to me, the rut is when they are breeding. i will take the chasing phase any day...usually is from about that date till atleast the end of PA archery season...atleast from what i expirienced.

I always go by the youth day hunt NOV 13-14th is when I start seeing the most activity in my area! Which is WesternMaryland(hence the name)

But the best thing I can tell ya is get in the woods as much as you can from the end of OCT on and you will find out quickly when the prime will be! Good Luck!

RE: 2007 Rut predictions

Charlie Alsheimers (biologist) Deer and Deer Hunting just talked about this. This year, Oct 29-Nov 12 will be the seeking/chasing phase and the best time to be in the woods. After Nov 12th through the following x days will be the lockdown phase (PEAK RUT) when bucks are locked down with does and most of the does (majority) are in peak estrous.

Those believing Nov 5th for PA to be peak are off...not so, that's still part of the pre-rut....the tail end prior to lockdown as the best time to be in the woods.

Regardless my injury, you bet your ass I'll be in a tree those 2 weeks...unless I'm tagged out. ;)

I have so many does, here.....they chase the little hussies from Early Nov. all the way through our season (they did, last year). I honestly don't think they all get bred, here.

I know of 8 or so that won't get bred, this year;)

I shot my last buck on 12/9 last year.....when he stopped to work a scrape. He chased does in front of me for 10 minutes before offering me a shot.

Here I would guess the last week of oct. but depending on weather it could be as late as the second week of nov

Pre Rutt, Always has been, always will be, Last week of Oct, First two weeks of Nov, give or take a few days.
The weather and moon phase just seems to make it more or less noticeable.
Thats just my 2 cents though!

The 26th is the first full moon which is when a lot of people believe everything starts to heat up

RE: 2007 Rut predictions

I know the weather really can throw it off. anything above 45 degrees will put a damper on the rut...last year it seemed later than usual.

Any idea when it starts in the Dirty South;)

RE: 2007 Rut predictions

The second full moon of the autumn equinox is Oct.25-26, native americans labeled it the"Rutting Moon". I trust them. I think something thatgets overlooked is the fact that almost two weeks later there is a new moon. The new moon nightandnightsshortly before and afterare very dark which(IMO) may affect /limit the deers night timemovement and when you add does in heatinto the equationIhope itleads toa significant spike indaytime activity (around those dates Nov. 6 - 13).

RE: 2007 Rut predictions

Deer and Deer Hunting tv show explained that this years rut should trigger Oct 26. But then went on to say the rutis a 40 day process and not a 1 week 2 week event. I guess Oct 26-Nov 13 is the time to be in the woods. After that the bucks may be locked down. But thats just what the show said.........

I predict that some does will get bred, and some bucks will get dead!:D

I'll be in the stand all day long those days...

RE: 2007 Rut predictions

IMO - weather patterns have more to do with "rut activity" than anything. A cold front moves in anytime during late October and Early to mid November and big deer will likely be on their feet. Our best time to see mature deer is generally between November 4th and the 15th. I'll be in the woods everyday regardless!

Personally the week before full moon which is end of Oct this year.

You Know I think I have to agree with Fraley, supposeedly the rut in CT is from 12 Nov till the 24th or so?? Personally I see 10X more action the last week of Oct and the first 2 weeks in Nov then I do All year, maybe its just me. I am womdering if anyone else from Conn notices the same

peakrut 08-28-2007 04:42 AM

RE: 2007 Rut predictions

CT even my game cams get more bucks that last week of October and first week of November.
Then its like a light shuts them off until Jan in southern Wi.
I head up to Northern Wi every mid to late Nov for gun season and
it seems rut is done. Once exception was in 1998 when they were rut crazy opening weekend.

*sidenote* Morning pumpkin and sunshine;)

I have the same siuation as GMMAT.

I saw a 6 point locked down on a doeChristmas Eve 2006. There are so many does that the bucks have to chase for a long time to get them all.

RE: 2007 Rut predictions

Souths rut is much later and more drawn out then the north from what I have read in Deer & Deer Hunting Magazine. From the posts it seems to be true.
