Has anybody ever used Vanilla
As an attractant, like just pour a lil on some branches and leaves. Seems like I remember Dan Fitzgerald doing it in one of his old shows, he was using vanilla killa though, which is the same thing.. If so how did it work?

RE: Has anybody ever used Vanilla
I've used it twice and didn't see anything on those two hunts. Doesn't mean it doesn't work.
I soaked tampons with vanilla and hung it from trees. Tom |
RE: Has anybody ever used Vanilla
I used vanilla one time and I will never use it again. I saw moe black bear that day then ever before. In fact Ileft my stand after the morning hunt and walk by my buddie sstand to let him know I was headed to the cabin. He decided to sit just a little longer and he claims that not 5 mins after I walked through a black bear was on my trail and folled the same path.

Works great. Its my favorite scent to use. I definetly would recommend it. Works a lot better than sex scents, because unlike sex scents, theres no risk involved. Give it a try, you wont be dissapointed.

I'm with Copper31. Black Bear magnet.Actually had one youngster hang around under my stand for over a hour one morning. Little annoying, and unnerving.

I've used it before during preseason and had success with it. Couple does came under my stand that hunt and ate the leaves, branches, and bark from the tree I sprayed it on. Use pure vanilla mixed with a little water.
I no longer use it though. |

RE: Has anybody ever used Vanilla
No particular reason, just don't feel like fooling with it anymore.
I dunno, I may use it this year in early October if I don't see much action to begin with. |
RE: Has anybody ever used Vanilla
The Fish and Game Dept. at LBL in Kentucky use to use it as a lure to trap deer. Russell Hull I think had the first Vanilla based lure on the market called Cover up, Russell was a well known Big Buck killer from Kansas.
The first time I ever used the stuff I had a big Doe come in from down wind, and hunt me down, Picked me out of the tree from 30 yards away and began blowing, stomping her feet. I have never used any type of cover scent, since that day. (around 23 years ago) I have used quite a bit of it mixed with a few other goodies in aspray bottle for establishing Bear Baits though. |
RE: Has anybody ever used Vanilla
Ive used it before. I used it as a cover scent. I shot deer while I used it...
|
RE: Has anybody ever used Vanilla
I used it and on the first day i seen a eight point which i shot but made a horrible shot that that... i feel terrible for that
|
RE: Has anybody ever used Vanilla
I used it a few times and only saw raccoons. I tried peanut butter once and the same thing happened. Deer in my area seem to not like any type of odd smell. Doesn't mean deer in other areas wouldn't like it though.
