I'v tried reading but it makes me sleepy. So I just take a nap if I can or slip out for a bit. I use alot of pop up blinds & I'm sure I'v slept thru deer.:D I get plenty tho & as already mentioned, unless a spots new to you you have a general idea of when its most likely the deer will come thru.

Sudoku puzzles, scanning with binos every few minutes. Not just for deer, there's lots of stuff going on out there if you look. I think this year I'll practice turkey calling as well since I seem to call more deer than turkeys with it.

When I hunt the evening, once I get situated I'm usually pretty alert for about 30 minutes and then get sleepy and doze off and on for about an hour. Then I reminisce about sexual exploits from younger days for 30 minutes or so. By that time there is usually about an hour of shooting light left and I go on high alert and the deer usually show up with about 15 minutes of shooting light.

i usually just bring along things like a set of horns to bang together, a tube that i play music through(grunt), i also have this instrument that is fun to play.... it is a little can you turn over and it makes a cool whining sound. i am quite the artist but usually get interrupted with incoming whitetails. i know this is very dry humor, but i usually just bring a little log book and write things down about the hunt and the spot. sometimes i will bring a book when i get bored and read on how to hunt.
