I've got the proof it works.
Forget the wind just hunt.........
When carbon is heated with steam or carbon dioxide at 1000°C in the absence of oxygen, it becomes activated carbon. The activation process gives the carbon a porous interior and an extremely high surface area—a unique combination that makes it an outstanding material for absorbing odors. ![]() |

More facts ...........
Whatta ya say now............[:o] And, just 5 grams of activated carbon has the surface area of a football field to absorb odors. |

Do they make a Scent Lok in that size? As Roy D. Mercer would say, "How big a boy are ya?" Another question I have, is what happens to that carbon as soon as it is re-exposed to oxygen? Won't the gases in the normal atmosphere bond with the carbon on a molecular level? It seems to me that as soon as you take this thing out of the vacume chamber its already starting to loose its effectiveness. I'm sure sitting on the open air rack and getting fondled by customers half the year doesn't help... nor the fact that most large hunting retailers allow dogs inside the store. And lots of customers smoke and walk around the store eating food. And a 1000Deg C steam cleaner isn't exactly available from Wal-Mart for in home delievery? Its not that I don't believe in this stuff, I'm sure it doesn't hurt at all, and may well even help... but the more and more scientific it becomes... the less likely I am to believe it. I know charcoal soaks up stuff, the military has been using it for decades... but thats litterally charcoal.... I come out looking like a miner, and its terribly uncomfortable.... |

Jim
I've got the facts to back up every thing I'm posting. |
RE: I've got the proof it works.
No one here has ever doubted that activated carbon adsorbs odors, the bone of contention was "for how long", and general disagreement with some of the manufacturers more outlandish claims contradicting established scientific facts. Yes, it does work for awhile, no, you cannot "regenerate" it at home regardless of any claim to the contrary.

RE: I've got the proof it works.
Nobody has said activated carbon doesn't work. What's been said is it's not possible to regenerate/reactivate the carbon to any appreciable degree in conventional home laundry machines. Which means after a while it doesn't work any more. How long it works depends on what contaminates it has adsorbed and how much.

With the right promoters hunters will buy any thing.
The butt hole tool seems to come to mind when I think of other stupid purchases hunters make. |

I bowhunt for the primitive aspect of the sport, not the technical innovations. If I wanted to "Forget the wind, just hunt," then I wouldpick upmy beanfield rifle. It carries minute of angle out to 400 yards, and the only wind I have to worry about there is in mph and deflection...

Well who is gonna heat their expensive (ripoff) clothes to 1000 degrees Celcius. "TECHNICALLY" it works, but how its used for hunting not a chance. Ill say it once and ill say it again, activated carbon clothing does not give hunters an advantage. Its a waste of money.

By the way...... http://www.fastestbows.com/articles/corrigan/scent_suits.htm
Ive posted that website a hundred times and ill continue to do so im sure. Read it. It explains how much of a ripoff activated carbon clothing is and how it works technically, but how it doesnt help during the hunt. How it actually works about the same as non-activated carbon clothing. Ripoff. |
RE: I've got the proof it works.
