Broadheads not grouping
Hello,
I have an old Bear Kodiak compound. I can shot field points just fine and want to do some deer hunting with this bow. I have a set of 3 blade fixed broadheads and four blade broadheads. The three blades seem to group amuch better than the 4 blade, but I am still getting a groupof 8 inches at 20 yards for the 3 blade broadheads. Currently I group about 3 inches with field points (I know I need to pracice more). Anyway, my bow does has the old stick on arrow rest so I cannot increase plunger stenght. So without buying a new arrow rest I don't know if my bow is tunable. I am thinking of going to a mechanical broadhead. I know my penetration will not be as good, but I hunt in FL and our deer are smaller. Now if a big hog comes out I might regret it, but if I cannot accurate place the arrow penetraton does no good. Any recommends? Should I get a new arrow rest? Or mechanical broadheads? Or something else? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Chris |

A new bow.
What is ur # and draw lenght |
RE: Broadheads not grouping
Start by getting your bow tuned... Never use mechanicals to treat a mistuned bow....

BowHunterJim - Believe me I would love a new bow, but I have a young child and my budget will not allow. I am shooting about 52# at 30" draw.
KillADoe - I assume to get my bow tuned I would need an adjustable plunger? Any other suggestions? Sounds like I need to head to the archery shop. Cheers, Chris |

Thanks for the advice. My bow shots very slow so I was worried about mechanicals, but if I cannot hit the target the fixed blades do no good. I will get to an archery shop and get some much needed help and plan to hunt with fixed broadheads.

RE: Broadheads not grouping
you can buy a cheap two pronged rest that works just fine and my old bow thats what i had on that it was like 9.47$ so its not like it takes 50 bucks just to get a new rest

RE: Broadheads not grouping
a good mechanical broadhead doesnt take much energy to open people are just stuck on the idea that they need more energy. people have shot through deer for years with low energy long adn recurve bows. but when it comes to mechanicals make sure you buy something good.

Follow my link and learn how to tune your bow. I would also suggest using feathers with your setup. Your shooting an older bow and you won't have enough clearance to shoot certain type rests without getting some fletching contact. If your shooting with fingers you may want to consider tyring a release with a prong style rest. I would not recommend using mechanicals with your setup at all. |
