Rubber boots may not hold in foreign odors like leather boots, but they still have a very strong rubber smell. I personally do wear rubber boots but often wonder if deer associate the smell of rubber with humans. I think that rubber boots do benefit you if you do not overhunt an area or educate the deer that you smell like rubber. Just my two scents.

The few guys that did get busted in them I wonder if another scent did you in i.e. your breath, something on your clothes, etc...??

Yes, you want to tuck your pants into your boots for the reason for your above question: to try to keep from spreading any scent your clothes may have inadverntently picked up. I store my mine in a Scentlocker carbon bag after washing them with Fresh Earth laundry detergent, but I still like to tuck them in.

Rubber is not completely scent free, but it doesn't hold scent like leather. Until a better system or substance is found it will be rubber boots for me.

no scent shield/ camp fire smoke OK
Camel or Lucky Strike cigarettes OK/ everybody smoked
1/4 of the amount of deer we have today
No Google - To find out info, you had to KNOW somebody and call them on the phone.
No trail cam
No Ariel photo's
No GPS
No trail timer
No Interstate system
No 4 wheeler

Actually, I most often bowhunt in those old fashioned high top canvas Converse All Stars basketball shoes. They're quiet to walk in, inexpensive and they're washable.
edit: I would probably use different footwear if I lived in the Great White North, but it doesn't often get that cold down here, and it's never that cold during our October bow season.
