What would you do?

I have a new (Sup) boss this school year. He seems really great but has made remarks about people taking time off when it is not necessary. And that we are a team and when oneis not in placethings do not run the way they should.Well I have always taken my 2 personal daysduring bow season. I will soon have to make a decision to put in or call in sick. What should I do?

Before you say remember this I live in a small town and everyone knows what I do on my time off.

Honesty is always the best policy. You may not get the result you want right now, but things will generally work out better in the long run.

So........what was the question..........
Do you like you always do ........if they are 'your' 2 days of personal time allotted to you thru your job it is your business what you do with them as long as they are applied for and granted.
So........what was the question.!

They are called "Personal Days" not "For the Convenience of the Team Days".I read the post again and am wondering ifhe in factmight have been refering to people calling in sick and it didn't come out the way he intended ??

And........if 2 days is all that you get off then I'm thinking you might want tolook around fora better job. [:o]

Yeah, I say just tell him that you need off. Their your days to use as "you" wish not him. Now, of course he can always say no but who cares...at least you tried. I just put in for time off for the Friday before opening day and my boss didn't have any problems...and we will be right in the middle of catalog time (I work for a catalog company).

RE: What would you do?

If it is a personal day you don't have to tell him what you use it for THAT'S WHY IT IS PERSONAL.

They are YOUR days. Use them and use them wisely. Can't think of a better use of PTO than hunting!

You can tell who the employer's and employee's are here.My advice would be to be straight with the guy.Tell him that hunting is your passion and that you intend to do a great job for him and your company and this is a time of year where you try to grab a day here and there. For the definition of personal days refer to your employee manual or handbook if you have one.
Any employer or boss worth their salt is going to be appreciative of someone who is being straight with them and giving them plenty of advance notice.Bottom line though if you are good to them they will be good to you.So if you are a great employee they would be foolish not to recognize and appreciate you!

I totally agree with tsoc, this is honest, sound advice. Your boss will appreciate it and respect you for it. People by nature dont like confrontation which is usually why they procrastinate and then demand. If handled like tsoc advised and soon it'll be alright and you can hold your head high.

Iagree with them fellas that said to be up front with the boss!

Ihope your job don't turn out like my last job--Take a vacation day off to go hunting--you got put on the black list--

But if youwanted a day off to play in a golf tournament NO PROBLEM--even knowed of guys gettin paid for the day(no vactation time)for company golf tournament!

"Sorry just venting"

Honesty is always the best policy! Give plenty of notice when you "tell" him when you would like "your" days off. How you use them should be your business. ;)

RE: What would you do?

They're your days and you need to take them. No competent leader would suggest that their people should forgoe vacation to work. In the end, the team is better off if people are happy.

RE: What would you do?

Where I work the so called "Bosses" can't complain about us common Laborers taking off for Deer Season because they take off to go Hunting also...if they ever complain about how many people take off then all of us can complain about the Big Dogs taking off too! [:'(][:'(]

A few of the Bosses acted like they had to take off for other reasons but as said...in a small town everyone knows your business and what your up to when your over heard bragging about shooting a big Buck! :D

If your always there for work on time and you have helped others out or done over-time when work gets busy you should be able to take off when you want to.Deer Season should be a declared Holiday and you get a free week off. LOL ;)

Ya what tsoc said. I really don't see a problem with two personal days if it was 20 personal days then maybe.

RE: What would you do?

I would take them off...He's NEW, thats what he's suppose to say! If he wants to be a team player, then come have him help you drag your deer out....Ha!
Good Luck!
