3 Bears, 2 hours, 1 down
 

Well, its the first day of bear season up here in Ontario. I have been baiting for the last couple of weeks in preparation and its been great so far. My first three hunters arrived yesterday to do a little pre-hunt fishing and caught a bunch of walleyes and pike.

This morning started out rainy, not looking good. About 1:00pm it started clearing up, looking better. I got the guys out a little later than I like, mainly because of the weather.

Well, Jim Goettl of Hayward WI, got on stand at 3:45. At 4:15 the first bear showed up. Nice bear around 6', but didn't offer a shot. The next bear showed up at 4:50, around 200 lbs, not big enough. The last bear showed up at 5:40.......14 yrds, perfect quartering away, double lung. He ended up running 50 yrds and giving 3 death moans.

Afterlooking him over he ended up weighing around 350 and has a skull about 20".

Not bad for 2 hours.....EH?

VERY awesome!!! A bear hunt is way up there tops on one of my upcoming hunts I want to do soon... A fellow Bowtech Pro Staffer and I have been talking about it quite a bit here lately.

What do you think that one will square?

Hunter #2 came in and saw 4-6 bears. Hard to tell exactly how many....first time out.

Alright, #3 is in and saw 10 bears. Lots of small ones, and a couple decent......Tomorrows another day! :)

Drag? What drag? The bear made a semi-circle and was 40 yards from the stand.......That's what the Yamaha Rhino is for! :D


On a side note, I got him skinned out and he was 7' from nose to tail and had a rough measurement of 20 8/16" on the skull. Crazy, he had almost zero fat.......Long and lean with a big mellon.

In life, bear hunting with a bow is one of my favorite things to do...

Nice. It sounds like you've got them crawling all over. It doesn't sound like the other hunters will have any problems getting one.
