Sight Level
The post about the level arrow rest got me to thinking. Does everyone shoot sights with a bubble level on them and if so do you level it for every shot. I do and I level it as close as possible before I squeeze one off that another reason its so nerve racking trying to focus on all those pins.

RE: Sight Level
I shoot allot of Target Archery........So yes I use my sight level!!
|
RE: Sight Level
nope seems like too much to think about if you ask me
|
RE: Sight Level
mine has one on it and i do level it. i shoot a single pin so it doesn't get too confusing.
|
RE: Sight Level
i shoot with one....i can tell immediatly weather or not im level without ever looking...i can just "feel" it...guess thats why we practice...so when its crunch time your mind and body can do what it did 100000 times before. but when i shoot when its not level, i know it...definently wont have a site without one

RE: Sight Level
I'm kinda in the same group as mauser06. Having shot a lot of field shoots years ago and indoor target and 3D for the last 15 years I can feel whether the bow is level if I'm on fairly level terrain so rarelyever look at the level. If I'm shooting sidehills and/or up or downhill I'll take a glance at the level and correct as necessary, but it doesn't take long to do so nor do I dwell on the level itself.
I have sights with levels on my hunting bows also, but getting practical about it I don't use them. Most all my hunting is from treestands for Pa. whitetails ans shooting maybea maximum of 30 yards there just isn't any way to cant a bow hard enough to throw off the shot by much. For that same reason I have no use for any kind of capture rest, too. |
RE: Sight Level
I got one on mine and I look at every once in awhile just to make sure i am still holding the bow level. maybe once every 30 or so shots while practicing and i practice at 60 yards
|
RE: Sight Level
Absolutely. Canting your bow one way or the other can cause your shots to drift right and left.
You may not notice it much at close ranges, but start shooting farther out and you'll see a difference. |
RE: Sight Level
Shooting on uneven terrain is where its critical
|
RE: Sight Level
I generally do not check the level. I tend to be pretty level. Now if I'm shooting indoor targets for a score and I'm not scoring like I should, I'll run through the basics and checking the level is one thing I'd reference.

RE: Sight Level
For the distances I'm shooting at I never use one. My groups stay within 2" out to 40 yards so I'm happy. If I was serious into target archery competitions I'm sure I would but for hunting I'll pass. I get confused easy enough now when a buck walks by. I can see it now...7 o'clock opening day a 10 point walks out. stand up...draw bow...center sites in peep site....square off shoulders...take deep breath and exhale slowly....check sight level....bow is off so make adjustment....take another deep breath....adjust sight level one more time....take final deep breath....watch as deer slips away, get light headed and fall out of stand.:D
|
RE: Sight Level
Honest answer is.....Nope. I hardly eve check it. When Im working on nothing but pure form....I'll give it a glance. When I'm shooting 3D or hunting.....I honestly forget it's there. I NEVER look at it hunting.
|
RE: Sight Level
I always use the level while practicing so when im hunting it just comes natural...
|
RE: Sight Level
The tournament classes where I did most of my competition shooting didn't allow levels on the sight. Didn't even allow pin guards in those days. So I was never in a position to begin relying on either one. Now I feel like they are just extra distractions you don't need. Especially when your palms are sweaty, your heart is pumping in your throat and you're doing your level best to keep your shaking knees from dumping you out of your treestand, all the while trying to aim at that deer.
|
RE: Sight Level
That would be a big YES followed up with a YES.
|
RE: Sight Level
My sights have a level on it and I do use the level to make sure that I am consistantly doing the exact same thing for every shot.
|
RE: Sight Level
overrated
|
RE: Sight Level
I don't use it, and my shooting is fine.:D
|
RE: Sight Level
Yes, I use my level....especially when shooting on odd/non level landscapes.
Little hint, if you don't have a level, always cant your top limb slightly into the hill. Most if not all people have tendency to cant the opposite way without a level. |
RE: Sight Level
Rob ,
i whole hardly agree with you.... it's just 1 more think if you use it often will stop you from drifting left to right especially from a tree stand... i am a single pin sight person, so i have it on my hha and on my T.R and with my hot dot its built right in if you cant more then 6 degrees it shuts off.... |
RE: Sight Level
I have never had a sight with a level until this year. i dont use it much, just another thing to take my concentration off the target.
|
RE: Sight Level
have one, but it makes me panic when shooting if i watch the bubble and worry about being level. i agree, it SHOULD be level, but inside 40 yards (my set hunting limit) i never notice a difference.
to me anyway, checking the bubble just added complication that is not needed at hunting ranges for me. |
RE: Sight Level
I have one on my Spott Hogg, and it really helped me out when I first got it since I canted a lot. But it cracked or something and all the bubble juice ran out, but I don't really need it now.
