RE: Is it necessary?

The guy at your shop is absolutely right, 50# is plenty to kill a deer, but here is why I shoot 70#. I want to shoot the heaviest draw weight that I am comfortable with because I want my arrow to get to that animal as fast as possible and with as much bone crushing energy as possible. I want all the speed I can get to provide a lesser chance that that deer will jump my string, especially at the 30 - 40 yd range.

I would pull as much as I possibly could comfortably. 55 is definately enough, I shot my 1st deer pulling 36 lbs and the shot was hard quartering away I even clipped the front shoulder and it exited. So its definately enough but I would want to be pulling as much as I could for when I hit a deer less than perfect(hopefully never but its gonna happen). I wouldnt want to be pulling 55 lbs when you hit a deer in the shoulder. But as long as you can shoot good I would say go for it.

i shot my first deer at 35 pounds...in wisconsin the minimum is thirty and it was a clean pass through...so fifty five should be more than enough if you hit him in the right spot

Don't like a light bow. Mines 68 and very comfortable for me.
