Carbon? Thanks for the heads up also wash
Yeah, it was a carbon arrow.
Hmmm........I see FMJ's in my future!!!!
I have carbons split on me a few too many times, that is one reason I switched to a better brand.

What should I be looking for when checking them besides nicks. Any way to test if one has a crack in it ? Sounds different like when you check a baseball bat for a crack ?

Good heads-up, I always flex mine and shake em after pulling them from a target.

Twist and Flex test, Grab the top and bottom of the arrow and twist it, then rotate it, and twist again, till you have gone all the way around the arrow looking for small cracks or little bulges in the shaft. Flex test you do the same thing only you flex it like a fishing rod. If you shoot more than one carbon arrow at a single dot or 3D target you better be checking them all the time. Also carbons loose their spline, and will no longer group with the rest of the arrows, Just another reason to heavyer instead of lighter and keep them all numberd, you can tell when something is wrong faster!

Yes I had a arrow shatter and go into my hand 4.5 months ago and trust me none of you want to go thru this...very painful and the recovery is long due to the amout of trauma that you hand will go thru.

So please all be safe out there!! Always check those arrows and bows for that matter before shooting. Does not take that time and will save you alot of pain and suffering not to mention alot of DR. bills.

I reposted the pics from my injury...ColoradoLuckyDog though it mught be a good idea and I agree. If the pics bother you then good...it will remind you to always be careful. I really do not want to see this happen to some one else real soon!!

So all be safe and HAPPY HUNTING!!!!!

Marty
