Ok Guys and any Girls

I have a decision to make. Near my work (.5 mi) there is a small patch of woods and I have seen 5 deer and 3 turkeys there. I want to hang a stand!! I got pics of an 11 point in there...

Here is the dilema, this patch of woods is not posted (trespassing or hunting) I beleive it is public, and alot of people have been dumping trash up there (propane tanks ! It is on the town line of two towns...one which has nothing in the bylaws about hunting, and the second that says NO HUNTING in the town in its by-laws. I beleive the land is more on the 2nd town.

I would just put a call into the Village Hall for both towns and find out who actually owns the property. Then find out if you can hunt it. I would much rather take a few minutes to make a couple calls then deal with DNR or the cops for illegal hunting.

It would be well advised to track down the owner. I'm sure lot of "stolen" stands were placed on someone elses property without permission.

In Ohio written permission is the Law.

I wouldn't hang a stand there. My philosphy is: if the land holds good deer you can bet somebody is already hunting it - legal or not.

In light of that, a lock on is not a good idea. I would first make sure it is legal to hunt there. If you are good to gothen I would just hunt with a climbing stand.

It doesn't provide the convenience of a lock on,but youwon't have to worry about a lock on being stolen or vandelized when you are not there.
