10 doe and no shot!
Yesterday afternoon was exciting, but I didn't get a shot! I had just sat down and immediatly saw 5 doe cross the power line about 60 yards south of me crossing right where I had walked less than 2 minutes before, though not running they were moving like something was pushing them, I watched them head off away from me in the woods and knew they were on the move today. About 20 minutes later 5 more doe, one of them was huge, cam out of the woods about 120 yards in front of me and proceeded to slowly feed in my direction. After about 20 minutes of watching the lead doe was about 40 yards out and still working my way, when I noticed her jerk her head up and look to the north, after a few seconds she went back to feeding and then did it again, this time she decided something was not right and proceeded to trot back off the way they had come with the other 4 in tow!!! Man is bowhunting frustrating! I would love to know what spooked them, the wind was perfect and what ever she saw/heard was downwind of her. Oh well, such is life, if it is not raining to hard I will be back tonight.
Oh yea on a side note, my wife actually listens to me, when I was heading out she said "The deer should be moving good this afternoon, there is some heavy rain coming in tonight", now all I got to do is get her to start hunting. Wonderful isn't it? Too many times do the deer just seem to know we are there ,even when everything is right, maybe it was a fox or something that had them concerned. I love it when the derr start getting grouped up in the late season, no cover and lots of eyes watching out for the group, makes it that much more difficult to hunt them with a bow.....Life is grand.

TAZ you keep seeing them, eventually you will break in that new bow.
Good luck and hang tough. Bob |

Tazman, you know they say deer have a 6th sense, its called the sense of presence, and I actually believe in it. I have had that happen to me so many times its scary.
But then again, thats why bowhunting is so much fun. |
RE: 10 doe and no shot!
my wife is hunting turkey with me this spring for the first time. I had a situation like you had earlier this year when a group of deer spooked for no reason I could see. My hunting buddy saw a coyote along the far fencerow that I couldn't see and said the lead doe saw it and diverted the whole group. Sometimes it isn't us.

That's bowhunting. Just frustrating enough to keep us coming back time and time again, but rewarding enough to keep us humble.
Keep at it Taz, the time will come. Shoot often - Hunt always |
