Good Buck (pic)

Here's a buck I'm hoping to slide an arrow through next month. This pic was taken the latter part of July and he's grown a little since then. He may be short of P&Y (not that I care) andI like his body size. I think he has a few years on him with that sagging belly.

He's not telling.[8D]:D

What do guys think the age of this buck is? About 3.5? I've been trying to get a better grip on aging.

nice looking wall hanger

I think he will go P&Y and if not oh well like you said. I'm positive he is atleast 3 1/2 years old, but I'm going to have to say he is 1 year older so I'm guessing 4 1/2. The sagging belly, jutting out chest, and he already has some grey showing up on his nose.

Id say 4 yr old. Nice buck, good luck.

he will go p&y... id put his age around 4.5

RE: Good Buck (pic)

I agree. If he's sagging now he's really gonna pack on the pounds when the acorns drop!

RE: Good Buck (pic)

he is perfectly symmetrical so he would make p&y, i'd say no older than 4.5, but if I was bettin' i'd say 3.5, nice deer though!

However old he is he's a good looking buck. Good luck finding him this fall.

He's 3.5 and he will be short of p&y, he is a nice buck... Depending your area you are in I am pretty sure he's 3.5 I dont think he's anyolder...Good buck, smoke him if ya want him...

RE: Good Buck (pic)

I would have to say 3.5 year olds and I think he will miss P&Y by a few inches, he should gross around 125" but after deductions he wouldn't net P&Y! Either way he is a beautiful buck and would look great on the wall!

RE: Good Buck (pic)

Thanks for all the input fellas...I'd have to agree that he's at least 3.5 years old. I buddy of mine thinks he's young...but that body doesn't lie. He runs with another big bodied 8 pointer with a lot of mass and super long brow tines...but not great tine length and no spread. (I'll post a pic of him sometime too).

Here's another picture of the same buck looking straight on. At first I thought he might squeak into P&Y...but I think Buck Magnet is right.

Good luck to you guys as well.

The main thing that is hurting him is his main beams. If he had about 4" more sweep in at the end of his beams he would definetly net P&Y. His G-1" appear to be about 4", G-2's about 8", and his G-3's should be in the 6.5" range. He is still a beauty of a buck and I don't think that I could hold out if he was standing at 20 yards broadside!

I think you're right Magnet.....and I definitely won't pass on this guy if I getthe opportunity. He'd look too good in the back of my truck and on the wall too.

I agree with 3 1/2yrs old. I think he's just shy of P&Y though. Still a shooter in my area.;)

Here's a picture from a nice mature buck from Greene County, Pennsylvania. What kind of score do you think he'd be?
Thanks

The date on the picture is wrong, it should have said July 13th. Sorry.

Great looking buck, I'm guessing 165" or so. I hope you can tell us for sure at some point in time!;)

Actually my brother-in-law will be hunting this buck. I hunt the same county but not on this specific property. He saw this same buck last year but twice he couldn't get it in range. I'll post a before and after pic if and when my brother-in-law gets a chance to take this buck.

RE: Good Buck (pic)

TriState, that is a very impressive animal. As far as score goes, he has great width, main beam length, and appears to have decent mass, the only downfall is the G-4's. From what I can see he is either a 9 point, or a 10 pt with a very short G-4 on his right side. Thats gonna hurt the overall score, I would have to say he would go in the low to mid 150" range

TriStateHunter 08-13-2007 08:00 AM

RE: Good Buck (pic)

Thanks Buck Magnet. It is a 10 point. Hope to share other photos in weeks to come. I was thinking it would score around low 150's, can'treally tell until out of velvet and down on the ground. Good hunting.
